Please check out this rock ballad I produced

I guess I was asking too much for my first thread, while so many songs are there to listen to.
I ll pick just one of those and than try to get some comments on production.
It is a second song from above (Orchestral Ballad by Pure One) SAMPLES
Any inputs and constructive comments will be appriciated.

i think you've done a great job
maybe bring the piano a little up in the mix so it's closer to the same level as when it's played harder
it might help gel the voice to the instruments a little as well
the only thing that kinda sticks out at times is the acoustic as the playing sounds a little unfocused
but it's a nice track and so you get a thumbs up from me

Was going to give you my 'Average Joe' opinion but after hearing how your stuff came across on my laptop i really dont think you need it?!?! you're sonically in a different league! when i played a mix i did after listening to yours i could hear that your vocals sounded open and had a nice silky 'air' at the top end, the balance of instruments was great on my laptop, the whole thing just sounded very pro! It made me ask some questions though - i could hear some very nice 'glue' or compression over your mixes and wondered what this was - it held everything together very well. I wondered what monitors you used as you mixes translated very well to my laptop speakers. I wondered what mic you used.
Your website looks great too.... i better stop there man! too many compliments for a single post! lol.

Peace.

Thank you guys for your time. I m also really pleased to hear your comments which are better than I expected. I have to agree with "sniperschool" about that acoustic guitar. Playing was a bit unfocused, but I liked the texture it brings with its sound so I left it in.
As pqlia said too many compliments do no good, but thank you anyway.
It was recorded with Emu1616m card using Mindprint Envoice pre and Rode NT1000 for vocals and all acoustic instruments (violins..). Guitars was done with SM57 and same pre. Drums are with SM57 on snare AKG D112 on Kick and SM 58`s on Toms. Overhead micros were AKG C391 into Behringer Tube Ultragain Pre. Bass was DI into Envoice.
Everything was mixed in the box using Cubase, UAD 1 Project Pak, some free plugs and Nebula for mastering eq and analog signal chain simulation. Monitors are ESI nEar5 and AKG K241 studio headphones.
Hope I answered all your questions, if any left....shoot.

Cheers

Well! i think that's RiDiCuLoUs!!! How embarrasing! I have essentially the same soundcard (EMU1212M) Similar mic (Rode NT2a) and my thang dont sound like that!!! You obviously know what you're doing! One question in return for all these compliments!! lol.. How much of that oh so nice vocal 'air' is down to the preamp you use and how much is down to processing?

If it's a trade secret PM me! ha ha ..

I think your monitoring is VERY GOOD. I listened on a laptop, tannoys, berrys, and hifi...sounded consistently good everywhere!

Peace.

With so many compliments you diserve even 2 questions. I d say it is more about the processing than the preamp in this case as I remember not being satisfied with the raw sound of the voice. Thats why I sold that combination... Mindprint and Rode.
What kind of proccessing I did on the voice i really can`t remember as it was done more than I year a go and I erased the project, but it was probably the usual stuff..eq,comp,reverb.. If you have time check the song nr. 8 (hard rock) from the same band and nr. 5 that`s my cover of Purple Rain just to see if translate well on your system.
That Purple Rain cover is probably the first mix i was satisfied with.

P.S. yeah very usefull girlfriend...and she cooks good as well
