I mixed this puppy on my manley 16 x 2 and I think it came out pretty well. Used Crane Song Trakkers, Distressors, Avalon 737, Nuendo, UAD-1, Apogee DA-16, Rosetta, Great River EQ-2NV, Neve 1073 Clone built by my father Never Begun http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=1461 |

I dig it. I really like how thick the instruments sound. The mix sounds very full. At first I wasn't crazy about the vocal, but it is sitting right where it needs to be to keep from turning the thickness into mud, its just has a more natural sound to it, rather than it being huge and thick. Definitely seems like all your "color" gear didn't let you down. I like it a lot, great job. |

Yeah, I could see where you are coming from on the vocal sound. I think if I had a better vocal Mic .... something like a vintage U67. I really like the sound of those on vox. Doesn't Soundelux make a recreation of that.? Anyway, I do need a better vocal MIC than a TLM 103.

Yeah this is cool - i like the bass player - I want more dynamics on the drums - they sound a little flat. The sound is good! Cool song and great bass player - nice feel/groove...

Great sound quality overall IMO. I agree that the bass is a standout. The high guitar line at 1:30 is beautifully done... gtrs are nice throughout actually. The vox starting around 1:00 is just little too hidden I think. I like its place level-wise in the arr there but just a little more intelligibility/articulation would be good. Drums sound good to me but lacking just a little in transient detail. I'm envious of your Avalon 737... used one in a studio recently but don't own one myself. Tim |

Yes, very good indeed. My nits: 1) A tad more sparkle on the snare 2) The 2nd verse lead voice does fall behind at 1:00, as Tim says. I don't mind being asked to pay attention to hear a lead voice, but when it's fairly dry like it is here, it doesn't seem appropriate. I'd just raise it 2db until the chorus, thereafter it's fine. 3) The distorto-bull horn backing voice in the chorus pokes through a bit at 1:36 to 1:39. It's also panned right behind the lovely lead guitar; what about panned mirror image away from the lead? Again, excellent overall here. John- |
