Great tune! At least SOMEBODY still knows how to write a real punk song besides Bad Religion. I like the sound for the vocals. The guitars could be a little more present and cruchy, but they could stay the way they are, that's kind of a personal preference. The drums...dude...ya need real drums for punk (but you all ready know that). That breakdown around :55 just kills it. If you can't find a drummer, I'd mess with the snare a little and turn it up, and turn the hi-hat down (although many a great punk recording was made with the hi-hat bleeding thru EVERYTHING.) Did you try to set up a null zone and sing in it when you recorded the vocals in the CR with the PA blasting, or did you just say F-it? Either way, I dig it. Two middle fingers up.

A couple of months ago i did something similar. Punk Rock with some
Fruity Loops drums.... Never finished it ´cause i can´t sing...

I really like the vocal sound !! It rocks !!
The songs reminds me of Motörhead. A little.

Rise Against, eh? I've heard some of their stuff and didn't like it...maybe you just do their songs better than they do? Or perhaps I listened to the wrong album...

As far as the whole null zone thing goes, the idea is to point two speakers at each other, and place the mic exactly in between them, where the competing sound waves should cancel each other out. I've only tried it once, with questionable results. Perhaps I'll start a thread about it if there isn't one all ready...

Maybe that's what some people don't like about modern punkrock. The overproduced sound. This song sounds simple and honest and it works for me too. But I als like the rise against overproduced sound.

In this example, it's two reference monitors, or PA speakers, pointed towards each other with a microphone in the middle. The idea is to get the least amount of bleed, so many people will opt for a ribbon or other figure-8 mic in this situation, as the "null points" in the pickup pattern will fall where the sound is entering. Some also prefer to sum the mix down to mono for this application, or even flip the phase of one of the speakers in order to minimize bleed, and address phasing issues. I wouldn't be able to stand in between that and stay sane, but if the client doesn't seem to mind, all the better I suppose. There's a few threads from a few years ago addressing this, but I'm going to start a new one in the "So Much Gear, So Little Time" section to get some fresh opinions/experiences on the matter.

Everybody's X, listened some more, I think the leads could stand to come up a little more, especially the first one panned hard right after the breakdown. Got any original punk stuff, you've got a good voice for it?

thanks man, I am more of a hard rock/metal writer, but I love stuff like this and other post-hardcore quicksand type stuff, Im thinking about writing a bunch of it, the support from you guys is helping........

heres mix two, I brought the GTRs up, brought the vox down about 3db, brought the laeds up,distorted and subdued the drums in the breakdown part, added some BGVs and the obligatory pick slides

Nice improvement, Everyone's X. Vocals are sitting niiiicely for a punk mix. Only thing that's getting me are the drums...for the time being, I still hear that snare being louder and that hi-hat being lower...till you get Pete Finestone in the studio.

Opentune, nice beef on the guitars. Love the tone. Hope there's room for the bass down there! I'm interested to see it develop. I'm doing two tracks on an upcoming Bad Religion tribute album (one acoustic, one electric), this'll give me some motivation to get the last one finished. I'll post it once it's done! Let the punkness abound!
