I wrote this a while back but recently re recorded it---all of the guitars and Bass are me--Vocals by a singer I have been working with--Drums are done with samples---any and all opinions are welcome and especially any ideas about how to make improvements on the recording ...sometimes it just helps to have some new ears listen.... Thanks |

My first impression is quite favorable. A few notions come to mind: 1) Look for a means of adding textural contrast between lead and BG vox. They appear nearly identical to me, and I don't feel that's in your best interest. Consider midrange cut, additional compression, delay or additional reverb on the GB vocals. As it is they are very clearly the same performer, in the same space, at the same distance from the sound plane. 2) The lead guitar approach - in terms of performance, tone, and Fx is not attractive in my view. The tune, overall, is probably hipper than the lead guitar is. 3) For itb drums, they are very pleasant. I don't have enough experience here to offer much concrete suggestion but two thoughts are that some space around the drums might be attractive, as might added compression. Your drums are, for my taste, a tad dry and dynamic. The low midrange content of the drum, in particular, are quite up front. Again, I feel you're off to a good start here. Let's see what others have in terms of suggestions. Best, John- |

Thanks John<--I appreciate greatly your input----I had heard this before about the guitar sol--tried to fix it by changing the rhythm parts behind it-to make it fit more in the mold---but I think I might pull it out all together--*S* I did use compression on the individual drums--but I guess you are saying overall compression on the whole drum mix... I would absolutely love to hear what some of the others think also...c'mon ya'll.. |

Hey, this has a nice sound to it. It reminds me of something...like a christmas song. no wait...."I am a rock" ! that's what it reminds me of. yea, the solo is kinda 80's(in the bad way). I REALLY like her voice. I don't like all of the runs...but that's personal taste. I really like her voice!! She has a fresh...new sorta sound...I don't think you should use the solo...it's taking away more than it's adding. I like the quality of the vocal recording....what did you use? |
