Thread Starter | One man music production.....Let's hear the MUSIC!
This thread is specifically about the music. I don't want any of the samples listened in the one man production thread to get lost within the discussion. The discussion is cool. But I'd like everyone who is a one man wrecking crew to post some of your music that you did all on your own with no other members from writing, producing, performing, and engineering.
So let's have it! I'd love to hear what you guys have done!
I guess I'll start. My EP is almost finished. Here is the first track from it. All done by me.
The only thing I didn't do was mastering. I'm gonna get it mastered again with a little less high end (EQ) when the EP is finished. Depression In A Time Of Love.mp3 |

Sure, I'll play. I'm still a novice at recording with plenty to learn, but here are a few from different genres: Moonlight Skater Better Days Change

Or I guess it's delicately heavy because of the little interludes :-) Sounds good to me. Not one of my more commonly listened to genres but I liked it.

The only 2 rules I have are no "chugga chugga" or "metal palm muted" guitars and no vocal tuning.

I'll refer you all to the first track on my MySpace page "What Can You Do" - a bit of background to it, this was a track I did to pitch to two certain artists. The vocal engineering wasn't great as I put the vocals down quickly - I came back to it the following day and re-recorded it properly but it just didn't have the vibe, so went with the initial rough vocal. Unfortunately the two artists concerned (or rather their A&R) didn't go for it, so I ended up releasing it myself via iTunes - and that was a cheap plug, by the way
Longwinded or what?
The other tracks are a bit older - one's a demo, and the other two were mixed by someone else. Everything else was done by myself using my home set-up/studio.

Here's a cool thread that is similar... you can hear some of my music there, too. Anyone here ever made a whole album alone?

One man production, eh?
Here's a guitar instrumental version of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7931344
Its in a "Song of the Year" contest. If you like it, vote for me RasCricket at AMPED SOUNDS - Vote
Another song worth checking out is "Ska One": http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8034079 ~ instrumental Reggae/Jazz/Ska
All instruments by me done with Reason 4 and Audition 3. I like showing these off as examples of what someone can do after owning Reason and Audtition for only two months. Well, that and twenty years of guitar playing, haha.
The guitar was recorded straight into the tower through the Line In jack ~ no interface. Listen to that tone!! Thanks for checkin it out :D

OK the first four songs on the myspace page player are one man shows, the song The Wild Wide Open is an instrumental w/ acoustic gtr and some midi strings and flutes thrown in for fun. Three of the songs Turn Out in the Wind, Radio Flyer and Time Is were all done at Java Jive outside Nashville done demo style with session cats and a real engineer and it shows thumbsup anyway its is an op for comparison Kevin Roche on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos

Most of the time I do this to test new equipment and end up with a song.
Sometimes I'll bring in female singers to add flavor.
The Floyd covers were a test - it's always fun laying down acoustic unedited drums and then multitracking the rest.
The live tracks are unrehearsed live gigs and don't apply to the thread topic.

Here's a couple...
"Right Back" http://www.stkelly.com/promodl/st_kelly-right_back.php
And this one I think is a great song, but I recorded it a few years ago, not in a studio of any sort... I will be re-doing it at some point because I think it deserves that
"Top Of The World" (I guess would be classified as pop soul?) 06-st._kelly-top_of_the_world.mp3
Either of these can also be streamed from the player at St. Kelly
Thanks for listening!

This is a song that I did everything but master, and I have to say I am not happy with the mastering job. I was at college for Independent Music Production, and we release a final CD with everybody's song on it at the end of the year. It was awesome.
