The song is political.

The song is about how the radical feminist movement has finally made men 2nd in our modern world.

Yah... the big gated verb . Tried other stuff but the big verb seems to really carry it as much as I tried to resist it. Any suggestions....maybe alternating the reverb on various hits ?
In my opinion - you aren't working on a top 40 pop song here, and so the sum of the parts should carry the song - I don't think the snare has to carry anything. My suggestion would be to let the snare just be a snare, a decent sounding normal snare :-)

I don't generally record message songs anymore, and I don't normally engage in conversations here outside of music - but I will say that I've had a decent go of things believing that men and women are equals. Nothing I have experienced in my life, including friendships with women who could be considered radical feminists had done anything to make me change my mind. I don't feel like number two :-)

That would have been my second guess.

Seriously.....didn't quite make that leap, but I honestly did enjoy the listen. It's a big, bold song.

They are good sounds but u can still tell heavy metal amp sims I find. Same problem here too.

Have you tried "slippermans guide to recording heavy guitars " for some micing tips. Might be worth while.

I found that when ever I was trying out mic positions I never could tell if what I was hearing was good or bad. It was just a lot of variance and no point of reference to determine what I liked or didn't like.

Check out the feel on this one, it shows what I mean... You should play with the dynamics some more, that would really make your song come alive.

No problem bro - enjoyed the music! Please let me know if you have more that I can listen to. I like your language a lot, reminds me of Norwegian and Swedish in a nice mid evil way!

Jars with drums

Hey UncleLenny and greatgreatgreat river - I had a buddy of mine do some drums for that tune the jars I posted a while back. No longer a one man production, but anyway... I asked him for some brushwork, and I think he did a pretty good job. I'm also quite a bit of the way through weening myself off the heavy drowning vocal verb by using a sham-wow on the tracks.

Hoping for some feedback on this one again - THANKS

Hey Chuck...

Drums sound great in this tune.....kudos to your drummer. I might be tempted to take them down just a smidge because your dried up voice is sounding so good that I'd like it to speak out above the drums a little more.

And also....you might consider cleaning some lows out from the bass line. Maybe just a little filtering. I really like this tune.

While you're here...check out Lenny's most recent one.

Wow...this is a long thread. Cool to see so many are fighting it out independently out there and making echoes. Here's an old track of mine > http://soundcloud.com/peopleareobstacles-1/a-reason-to-hide-1

Hi Lenny - I don't know WTH happened on that bass line - must have been some distorting sub freq that I couldn't hear. I recorded it with my friends G&L and it has too much growl. I've been trying to compensate for that, but can't really get it. It needs to be round and bouncy - I think I will re-cut it with my pbass newly setup with flatwounds.

I listened to your song. As always I really liked the vocals and guitar. I gotta tell you though - at first I thought there were two completely different songs playing. I tried to get my head around it, but I can't.

Excellent!

Was looking for a rhythm that was a bit...left of center. It appears that I have found it.

I like that bass line.....too bad you can't find it's place with some filtering and other creative EQ.

Yeah - you found it. I was literally scouring your page looking for another embedded player :-)

As far as the bass - I don't plan on playing the part any differently, maybe better locked with the kick. I messed around with the eq for several hours before I realized that the basic tone just doesn't match the song. I love the playability of the G&L but the growl of those active pickups just aint my bag. I like big fat round tone :-)

Chuckduffy - Nice recording, esp the drums. Seems to me a hipass on the track would help with the bass. But don't take my word for it.

Thanks man. I'm still playing with the bass. Tried to cut a new part, but lost the vibe and couldn't get anything substantially better. I'll mess with filters some more....

You guys nailed it! Love the brush work and the song is flowing... I'm listening on headphones and it sounds good.
