Maybe it's my aversion to the A.D.D.-inducing world of hyperlinks, but on a thread where people are sharing the music, I'd love to have a simple, direct link I can click on *right here* that downloads the file or fires up a player... all without leaving the thread.

Otherwise, I get lost on a rollercoaster of tangents and other websites and lose my focus, and 15 minutes later I see the tab with this thread and I go "oh yeah, I was checking out new music."

Am I alone in this regard?

Gregory Scott - ubk

No, that's spot on. Another great way to share music these days is to make a video and post it in HQ on here. As long as people have the HQ button engaged on the youtube box the sound and video quality are pretty damn good and you could post it right in the thread like this.

It'd be great if everyone could put a direct link to their music right here in the thread, in the post. Not a link to another site in a sig, a link right here to a file or a player.

Since I'm gettin' fussy, it'd also be great if the file had a name which bore some relation to the artist and song title, and double plus bonus points if you take the time to enter that info into the mp3 data header (itunes and other players make this simple).

I guess what I'm sayin' is "meet the listener halfway". There's been a lot of stuff posted here, and while it may seem silly the unavoidable psychological truth is that every microscopic barrier between someone's current browser location and your destination is a very real impediment to getting them to voluntarily move where you want them to go.

Hook us with a song, *then* direct us to a site where we can check out more if we're piqued.

Or maybe I'm nuts.

Gregory Scott - ubk
How does one do this ?? because I agree I have clicked on some links and gotten lost . I have my myspace page set up but how does one post the music file on the thread. I have I-tunes do you just make an MP3 file and attach it to the reply ?

You certainly aren't. I'll bite and try to play by the rules.

Below are two examples from a just released album on which the only external collaborations were final analog summing and mastering, plus three fellow musicians playing some instruments I don't master. I took care of all the rest (including graphics), so I hope it'll fit in the "one man production" category. If not, my apologies.

But... I got a special case here. The fact is, this project is hopefully original and can't just be embedded like this because ther is a much "richer" proposition to it, that actually includes the website itself.

If you care to check it out the way it's intended to be seen, you may click here : Napoleon Washington's Mud & Grace.

Thanks !

A short disclaimer : the site is actually the album itself. It is absolutely possible to watch it entirely for free, or even download it, but you may be politely (and in a quiite funny way) be prompted to donate if you choose to download.

Try Dropbox. That's how it's working for me! Just figured it out 20 minutes ago. The only other way I know is if you had your own website to upload music to.

Just checked it myself after logging out...C.R.A.P.!!!

Well, I guess I'm in the same boat as some other people here. Is there a free website to upload files that can have a direct player when you click on the link and also doesn't have virus/fishing issues???

Sorry I thought it worked like that. When I've used a link on Facebook is creates a little popup player and works great. Reverb Nation has a nice popup player.

MAN! So much great music being posted up, really nice work. There's so many to comment on I'll just say I'm really enjoying the different production styles. It's great to hear what everyone is into, finally putting some sounds to some names...killer!

You guys afraid to sing, just need to find your voice and then maybe you might have to arrange the pitch of your song to match your range.

Detune down or use a capo on guitar if you want to keep the rhythm guitar chords
simple.

If you have no high range, drop the vocal to something in the Lou Reed range.
or go Johnny Cash, but sing yer dad gum tunes dag nabbit.

Recording will most definitely show you Many Ways HOW NOT TO SING
before you learn to capture your best natural voice.

The best advice I got from a voice coach was to sing close to your natural speaking voice.
Dropping my vocals down gives me way more power and projection and control.

Getting out and performing your song solo also teaches you
how to arrange your song so it holds together on it's own merit
with just you and the audience.

I'm brewing up something new, just haven't had a chance to do a rough track.

a song about procrastination

I like to use soundclick, it has the best sounding conversion for the free sites.

Agree, SoundClick remains trouble-hassle free for me as well.

If you have a .mac account you can also upload to your iDisk.

Great safe way to share and you can even use encryption for added security.

I would also argue that it's mainly about just turning off the inner critic. My song earlier in this thread is only like the 5th song I've ever sung in my life. It's not like I'm some kind of natural singer. And I'm one of those people who just assumes that people in the future have perfected the ability to look back in time and that all of us are on TV in our most embarrassing personal moments, which doesn't help much. But, you have to just let go as Imogen Heap says, jump in. Just realize that your voice is what it is and that, if you deliver it with real emotion and sincerity, that's what counts the most. There are lots of well known singers with very strange voices, who now of course other people purposefully try to sound like.

At first don't try to do a part that covers four octaves. Do something with a strong and simple melody that isn't too hard. And work on your lyrics so that they are actually singable. There are some great things you might say, but they are so cumbersome to sing that it's best to leave them for your rap opus, where those types of complex lyrics can be dealt with naturally.

Hey!

I resemble that! (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.)

Seriously though, while I appreciate u b k's sentiment it's just so easy to host my tunes somewhere and just let them be there for any interested parties.

I used to be a fool for a listen but these days I just track 'em and post 'em.

I am also one who enjoys clicking on the links.......if they are easy. If I can't find a way to listen to a tune in a few seconds I'm gone. Soundclick works for me.

OK....c'mon....more music........

Hey dman--nice set up. Did you make your racks and desk or find it somewhere? And is that a Soundcraft Delta and how do you like the EQ? Your tune had some clean, snappy high end. Nice job.

Thanks. My friend designed the desk and I built it with another friend. That is a Delta and I only boost 2 db max on the high end most of the time, after that it get's smeary. The lows and the mids are better. I just got the master section modded by Jim Williams and will have it next week and I'm excited to hear what difference that makes.

Way cool. Let me know--I live the next town over from Jim and have thought about getting a Delta. He seems to like them.

I'm guessing if you track with good pres, and use the Delta just to mix you can get some nice results.
