I've noticed from following this thread that there are different "levels" of "one-man production." Some of the posters have pretty much done it all - that is, they wrote the song, sang and played it, and recorded and mixed it. Others had some help here and there.
But has anybody done all of the following for a particular song or album?
(1) Wrote the song(s) (lyrics and words);
(2) did all of the singing parts and played all of the instruments;
(3) recorded it all yourself;
(4) mixed it all yourself;
(5) mastered it all yourself;
(6) designed your own web site (not MySpace, Soundclick, etc., but your own from-scratch website) to distribute your music; and, finally,
(7) created and produced your own music video for the song(s) in question?
Now that would truly be a "one-man production."
All of the above except for singing and music video.
My day job is producing radio spots, and once in a while a project will call for original music. Here's an example, and it's very much a one-man-band sorta deal -- especially in the demo stage, where I not only played all the instrumental parts, but did the VO and the singing despite having minimal aptitude in those areas.
Gearwise, the demo was all done on a Yamaha Motif > Avalon AD2022 DI's>PTHD (no MIDI or sequencing); the VO and singing were a Pearlman TM1>Avalon>PTHD. The final is the same, except I replaced the bass part with my trusty '82 Ibanez Blazer, and the VO and singers were Pearlman>Buzz Audio Ma2.2>dbx 160xt>PTHD.
I haven't heard it, but supposedly the spot's airing now nationwide.
Yeh, I'm a fan of that sort of style as well. This one sounds nice. I'd maybe argue for a bit less comp/limiting for this type of music, but it's a nice tune and sounds nice and is well performed.

I'm pretty sure that I've posted my appreciation of your talents before on this thread, so please don't be offended, but...I don't think this particular melody is as good as those of the previous songs you've posted. Nevertheless, it's still very pleasant, and you do have a sound that I like. (I'm guessing you might admire bands like The Dentists and The Clientele -- no one does this sort of dreamy, vaguely psychedelic guitar pop better than the Brits...). The guitar break at around 2:30 is lovely. However, I have to agree with a previous poster: Too much compression on this one.
Please keep posting your songs. Quite a few of us seem to like them.

@RiverDistrict - dig the sounds. Reminds me of Sea and Cake, got that midwest indie rock thing, but also kind of a Built To Spill vibe. Really like the acoustic guitar and snare sounds. Nice tune...
is a one man production - I'm playing the guitars, the flugelhorn, the keys/synthbass, and did the drum machine programming. I'm singing, and wrote the lyrics as well as the music. Did all of the engineering and production myself. Song is unmastered.

I actually never heard of The Clientel and The Dentists...weird!
Yeah...I noticed this also...too much compression. I usually remix stuff a week later...after getting some time off from the compossing and recording. 9/10 times these remixes are better...sometimes they're worse!
here's one of mine. I pretty well never post my music on gearslutz...
and I fully admit that this was done quickly, not a lot of time spent fixing details etc...
It was commissioned for use in a movie, an instrumental that is all me, composed, played, produced, engineered, mastered, blah blah dee blah blah blah. like everyone else here I'm sure.
what's amusing I suppose is that I'm a session violinist/violist and bass guitarist first and foremost. But I only played a simple bass part on here - it's definitely a lead guitar and synthesizer/production showcase for me instead.
So more blah dee blah, anyway I hope you enjoy it. Feedback, both positive and constructive, is always much appreciated (but please PM negative to me LoL - it really is much appreciated as long as it's private :-).
Here is me in a pre-Graceland Paul Simon bag. I wrote it and sang it, plus I played nylon string and electric guitars, acoustic drums, electric piano, acoustic piano, Azola electric upright bass and melodica--a little $26 job!
Jazz,
Great stuff. And now for something completely different...
This lil' ditty is all me and that'll be painfully evident once you give 'er a listen to. I do hope to fix some of the edits and add more than bare bones automation. And it's also aching for one of my friends who actually do know how to play guitar to lay down a lead on the outro.
Sucks to be going after Jazz.

aright.... I just finished the first mix of a new song my friend Ryan Blecher recorded at my place tonight.... Hes not a gearslutz member, he wrote this song for a video game forum competition.... Its a remix of a song called "4 bright buttons and 1 joystick"
He started with drums to a click, and then went to bass, then guitar... Then we plugged in the vocal track... Hes a madman!!! PLayed everything himslef with the exception of my help on some clap tracks...
Not entirely one man production, cause, i helped record him, but its in the spirit of the thread, and it was made in the name of internet forum fun.... so.... here it is...

Thanks for listening,

jeez...this sounds good. Even on my small laptop. great atmosphere and vocals.
love this sound - have you heard of the whitest boy alive?
The funny thing is: I hadn't heard of the Whitest Boy Alive 'till friends of mine started saying my uptempo songs were similar to his work. I still haven't actually listened to the guy...
Everything but the video- and everything is real. Seven tracks including bass, drums, guitars, vocals. And a HELL of a lot of swipe comping, let me just say in all humility- some bits took SO many takes to get in the ballpark. Happily this let me do modern effects like a sample-edit cymbal choke
Bit of a high water mark out of my little homestudio- and a nice clean pop song to boot :D (okay, that's the most ridiculous lie ever)
This does also make heavy use of really obscure Airwindows plugins nobody likes, such as Cojones
I don't do videos and I don't have a web site. That would take even more of my time spent on recording, but this is a little ditty I produced, wrote, played, programmed the R-5 drum machine for, and sang, a few years ago on my meager equipment at home.
All analog except for the upload. Sorry about the dropout at 1:06. Digital glitch during the upload.

Produced and mixed the song
Wrote lyrics and sang
Recorded and wrote all parts/instruments/programming
Produced/edited the video
I did not:
Sing the female parts
Master the track
Hope some of you enjoy it! It was for my sister as a VDay gift...she's in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority (ADPi) and their public hand gesture is the diamond.
So cool that within 1 sec I can recognize it's a Uncle Lenny track. Is it weird to get kinda Dire Straits vibe from your music? Bit more experimental, but still...
