| Some opinions on my latest song, please? (pop-punk) Greetings all, I decided I want to try something new and did a re-make of a classic song in a pop-punk style. I recorded everything ITB from my shack here in Iraq. I would really like some opinions on what I should do (or re-do) to get the most out of this song. Please feel free to rip apart my sub-par instrument playing and obnoxious voice, along with my amateur mixing & editing. Tough love is the best way to learn. Enjoy! | Hey this is pretty good, I enjoyed listening so you got the more important things right You can lower the gain a little but more important is to fit in the mix, try some coloration on them to glue inside the mix. |

| Thanks for your input! Would you say that the vocals are too up front throughout the whole song, or just during certain parts? |

| Yeah the clean voxs need some huge compression and maybe some de'Sing around 5k to remove some of the high in distortion the compression is going to bring out of this. They just need to sit better and I think compression is the trick. that and I also feel the drums (not overheads) could be more forward. |

| At the begining when filtered not too much (smaller adjustments will be fine) but later its more forward. If compression doesn't work, maybe decreasing around 8 khz and hi-cut a bit more can work or use tube saturation and lower gain...gentle-ish adjustments should be enough. |

| I love this place. I'm still trying to develop my ears, so I don't always hear certain things the first (or twentieth) time. But when you guys mention something that needs to be fixed, I'm able to identify it.Then I'll be able to watch out for it in the future, and bother you guys less. I compressed the vocals some more and brought level down a bit, made a cut at around 7.5k to help with the sibilance, and brought the drums up in the mix a little. Thanks again! | I like this a lot. I would add just a little tape delay (perhaps 1/8) to the lead vox during the first verse (the filtered verse). |

| I don't have much to offer in terms of the mix but wanted to say that I really enjoyed your version of this song. Also, thanks for your service to the country.

| This is my second time in Iraq, and things have really improved since the last time I was here (enough so that I can have a modest amount of gear with me). I edited my original post and attached the newest version of the song. I doubled the chorus vocal and made a few other changes to the mix. Unfortunately, I have to monitor on a set of earbuds so I'm worried about how the mix will translate on real monitors. I got the Redline Monitor plug to try and get an idea, but I'm still not sure. It sounds alright if I leave the "distance" knob engaged, but if I disable it (which supposedly leaves the eq flat) it sounds mushy and the extreme pans (including the stereo delay on the first verse vocal) is much too present. If anybody could have a listen and help me out, I would be most grateful. Thanks! |

| Sorry for the shameless bump. I was just hoping someone could listen to this on a set of monitors for me and let me if I need to make any adjustments. |
