Opinions please: 2 instrumental rock songs

I figured I'd post a couple of songs that I had recorded/mixed of my band from this past February.

I did these with my digi 001 and presonus firestaion for the extra 8 A/D via light pipe. 24 bit @ 44.1 khz

As far as pre's I used the two on the 001 and the two on the firestation. For the other pre's I rented
a presonus blue tube and a Mackie CR1604-VLZ.

Mic's: Oktava mk319, CAD M179, (2) c1000, beta 52, a bunch of sm57's, nady small diaphragm (i forget the model, it was only used for the hi hat, but rarely got used in the mix due to the overheads and room mic), and a few crappy nady dynamic mics for the guitar scratch tracks.

After reading this you can tell that this was a very 'low budget' recording. However given the total use of low end gear I am fairly happy with the finished product. We had a lot of trouble micing up the rack toms, due to our drummer's massive kit of 4 toms, 1 roto tom, 2 snares, and 11 some odd cymbals and bells. It was very hard to get the mics at a good angle on the toms, leaving the tom tracks VERY woofy and lifeless.

please feel free to leave me some feedback.
Sweatsuit type of guy - this song is a some what laid back

Command Center - this song is a little on the heavier side

thanks

Hey Ryan,

I really like the sweatsuit type of guy! Has a different emotion about it and I love that in music! All you need are some cool leads for it.Do you play much lead guitar?I would love to put some lead work on this song.

I think the mix sounded pretty good as it is. I only heard it over my stereo system thats hooked up to my video center in my living room so it's not the best monitor system but it seemed to stand up pretty well. I do have a studio in a separate building on my property and should check it out there. For the gear you used the mix came out well,I think!

I'll have to put some songs up on this site.I just found this part of the gearslutz (uploading music section)and think it's a cool place to let people hear each others music.

Let me know if you would be open to hearing some lead work from me on this song.

Just had a cool thought as I listened to the song again.I could here some cool cello parts like lead stuff right off the bat.I play cello too and this song would rock with some cool cello ideas I heard in my head just now.

Sure I'd love to hear it with some cello. Have you had a chance to listen to it in you studio yet. Was just wondering your thoughts on the mix. I believe the kick could use some lows taken out. It sounds ok on my monitors, but in an average consumer stereo with the "loudness" button pushed on (as most people do use, or the "rock" setting wtih the scoped mids and boosted highs and lows) the kick is just too over powering Anyway I'm looking forward to hearing it with some cello.

I listened to command center. That's a wild song.

The mix is pretty good balance wise. Everything seems to have this "sameness" to it though that's bothering me. Like they're all sharing the same freq response if that makes any sense.

This can work for some parts of certain songs, like the drum sound in Filters "Hey man, nice shot", but it's not working here.

Other than that, maybe tighten it up a little in places and your golden. Add some excitement with volume automation on the gtrs too.
