Mix sounds flat after bounce

Hi people,

If feel stupid even asking this, but I can't find the answer to the problem myself.

the problem I run into is that my mixes sound better then when I bounce them to 2track.

I have 2 digital tracks routed into my digital mixer (adat) and then I routed the mixbus to channel 3 and 4 on my daw. Although the mix is louder, it's much flatter. And I have no compression on anything whatsoever.

The mix sounds great, but the bounce .....

please help me out here.

thanks!

Most probably you're clipping it. Snare for example is a little less obvious when clipped so you might not recognize the clipping errors.

Levels aren't running hot either...
And when mixing in a digital console it remains digital right?
Stupid question :D.

just my .02 but i suggest doing your 2 track "mixdown" as actual audio. your computer isnt terrible at playing back all those different waveforms simultaneously...but when it tries to write one composite waveform it tends to do a rather mushy job of it...for that reason i always run out of my daw as analog audio and back into another 2 track be it a 1/4" machine, DAT, CD recorder, or even 2 tracks of an adat or other multitrack...some might call this converter abuse...and maybe it technically is...but it sounds better
