Red face Pop-Punk Guitar Tone (Dry Tracks) Opinions needed

Here is a lil demo i threw together today for a song my band is writing. All the drums are midi hand drawn in, so they aren't going to be perfect. The main thing i am looking for here is some opinions/advise on the guitar tones. They are straight dry from the mics in this mix. No eq'ing at all. I would like to get some feedback on what could be done to improve the tone and overall fullness, when i start messing with that stuff. Thanks!!!

Go ahead and Give in..mp3

These are the kind of guitar tones that I'm after. Any chance I could get some info on how they were recorded (which amp etc.) The vocals sound pretty cool too, did you use the sm57 for them?

Cheers,
Sam

Yeah man! Basically threw a sm57 on my peavey classic 30. Just mess with the settings and adjust the mic till it hits what you want. I throw mine about 6 inchs from the speaker and angle it towards the top of the speaker just slightly. Then, once you get the take, double it. Maybe throw a lil mic adjustment just to get a different sound from the amp. Yeah, everything on this was recorded with one sm57, cause unfortunately, thats all i can afford, however, I have no complaints! Love the thing. As far as amp settings on the classic 30, trb:9 mid:9.5 bass:9 post:2 pre:10. I was playing through an Epiphone Zakk Wilde with the EMG pickups. Thanks for the response!

I feel ya man. Everytime I post here there are 100 downloads and 1 response. Sucks.

Anyway the guitars sound great for that genre. Excellent job at capturing it.

the song sounds a lot like Such Gold.

What I usually do for guitars in the EQ department is a HF around 1.5kHz. Maybe +6dB there, it all depends on the amp. Than a HMF around 7kHz. Maybe a +3dB there. I usually cut 1-3dB out of 1kHz as well depending on the amp. I cut about 3-4.5dB out of around 100Hz. I also have a highpass filter at about 75Hz. Just use that as a ball park and fool around with everything. Hope this helps.

I like the sound of the vox.

The guitar could use a little less mids and low I think, to make a bass deliver more punch, but for your genre it fits really well.

good song. My only gripe would be with the vocal track - did you record these with your '57 as well? You might wanna invest in a pop shield - I can hear lots of plosives in there. Also, in the version with the vocals, I think the guitars need to be louder - but then, I think all guitars should be louder
