New Demo - really proud of it - feedback?

So I just finished a new demo called "Time Out." You can hear it at Daniel Gray on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos . I'm really proud of it and it's quickly becoming my favourite of my own songs. Any feedback good or bad would be appreciated. Cheers,
Daniel

i liked the noise in the beginning.
but then the song starts and all i hear is a Beatles tribute song.

you've done it well, but they've done it before, and better, cause you can't beat the Beatles.

my 2 cents !

I love the Beatles influence on this, it's a GREAT song in my opinion. Very well mixed, I think the vocals could use a little reverb/delay or whatever on them...but it's a fantastic song, well done!

I think the noise plays for WAY! to long, I lost the interest of listening. Then I skipped it and went on to the song.

I agree with the post above. Good work

I like the song. So what if it's Beatles-influenced? Nice rhythm guitar panning, Mellotron strings, sweet backwards guitar, cool vocals. However...

- 52 seconds of intro noise is about 40 seconds too long. You know the first swell in the noise? It should get cut right at the peak of that first swell and then segue into the song. 20 seconds of outro noise is 10 seconds too long. Think about it - 72 seconds of noise? I suppose it depends on your market. For my tastes this song could easily be 1 minute shorter and it would hold the listener's attention.

- vocals are too buried in the mix. Can't understand what you're singing.

- overall level is too low - turn it up

Where are the vocals?

I understand where you're going with the vocals. You need to EQ a bump round 1k, they are too roomy.

You should be proud because it's really good. The burried vocals work well in the context. The arrangement is creative (for a song that essentially stay's on one chord).

The beatles influence is a given.

The other songs are all solid work.

What's your melotron instrument ?

You don't need feedback my friend.
You need representation.

I believe I got the mellotron sounds from here: Hovercraft.html and somewhere else that escapes me and sampled them in Kontakt.

By the way, the "noise" at the beginning is actually backwards bowed guitar, if anyone was curious.

I really like it. It's well done, to the degree I can evaluate it on the crappy bedroom speakers.

Ignore the comments about the length of the noise. Everyone whines all day long on Gearslutz about how everything is me-too mediocrity. Then 90% of the comments that people get here demonstrated EXACTLY why everything is me-too and mediocre, because everyone dumps on anything that isn't. It's shocking but some of your listeners may listen because the LIKE listening to music, stunning though that is. I mean other sucky bands like Pink Floyd do things like have a roto-tom and guitar intro to a song that went on a couple minutes, right?

A lot of people here I think clearly DON'T enjoy listening to music. It's like cutting up pieces of meat on a conveyor belt for them mostly, as best I can tell. Well, that's my friendly neighbor rant for today. Do what moves you. If people like it, then they like it. If they don't, then you can decide if you want to sell your soul or not.

BTW, some other songs have drifted by as I've been typing, and I like those as well. As to a Beatles type band, I mean look how many people LOVE The Jellyfish, who were about as close to a Beatles tribute band as you can get. Everyone seems to love their stuff (I definitely do.) Plenty of good stuff to be mined in the trippy power pop world.

forgot to mention, anyone who does a national cover is mighty OK in MY book!thumbsup

re the noise mentioned..keep it. It is something that grabs me straight away..'great, something different and interesting for a change..wonder what/where this will go?' type stuff.

people mentioned the beatles, funny that didn't particularly strike me at all. Want weird? The track straight after it reminded me of Joy Division..go figure eh?

Thanks for the free downloads...but I have to confess that I'd really only want wave files. Picky aren't I. Main reason, to get it on my server I think (???) I can only play wave files. Better sound is not a drawback either!

Will have to wait till a mate with more computer nouse than I comes over, sure he can help me with these other formats.

You is in my bookmarks! Thanks.

Hmm, I don't think I have wavs on me but you can download lossless files through the site. I don't know if they'll play on your server though.
