| Lives for gear | Bang is back! My only "quarrel" with the song is the drum hits in the beginning. They're turned down a bit, and I feel are taking away from the punch of the song. Not the toms, but the Crashes/OH's. There's something lacking there. I like the guitar sound. Sounds like Trapt's singer, without all the "fluttering".

Thread Starter | Thanks man. The inital room and technical problems kept me for doing what I do. For one thing, the studio wasn't even clocked properly till a few days ago. It creeps me out listening to the other shite I posted. As for the opening crashes, I went back and forth and one point had them up. After listening to the mix, I threw them back up for the intro like you said, so its funny you thought the same thing. A pal of mine mastered this for me, and with all due respect, I think his attempt to fatten up the low end kinda clouded it a bit, but overall he did a nice job. I'll post another version soon, I'm still using this mix to listen to different monitors to augment my Truths. Steve |

Thread Starter | Its called the Timeworks Mastering Compressor and the thing is f'ing brilliant. It has built in peak clipping which sounds a lot closer to the source then limiting. Easy to make shit louder without losing impact. This song however was mastered by a good pal of mine who used the L3, I don't know how he set it, but I'll ask him. Steve |

| Lives for gear | Steve, I know what you mean about the mastering compression. I was hearing that too. I'm also hearing a slight bit of mushiness at points...maybe that's the same thing your talking about. |

| Steve Timeworks Mastering Compressor ..damm that thing is ancient..but I just heard it and you are right...it does not kill the snare like L2. Its almost like magic. I dont see it can clip the snare(as seen on the wave image) without ruining the sound. Do you set if for hard or soft? BTW. I forgot to mention I love those tight toms on this track |
