Need some mix practice?

The studio I intern at gave me a couple hours to just mess around with the gear, record some stuff, and see what I come up with. I called up a buddy to come play drums for us, and another intern did vocals.

I figured some of you might want some mixing practice, or hell, even something to do in your spare time Here's a link to the stems.

Chop, cut, rebuild, auto tune, WHATEVER. Only thing I ask, is no drum samples! Lets hear what you guys can do.

Here is my mix of it. SoundClick artist: APGEcho - page with MP3 music downloads

No click. Drummer didn't know the song and just played it by feel as I played guitar. It's probably around 155-165 though.

not sure if you were talking to me or OP but your mix is definitely pretty solid

you might want to turn up the guitars though, and turn down the reverb on them a bit

Criticism is welcomed.

Ok had nothing to do today (how sad is that??)

I tuned the vocals, used some transient design on drums. Made the guitars a bit more punchy, backed off on the limiting, and made some little automation moves. Hope you like it.

The second file is something I would normally pass on to clients as finished product.

Any advise???

No I didn't forget that. I think you mean the background "vocals".

The placement is intentional. Do you think there's something wrong with it?

I really like what you did with the guitars. They are more punchy than mine. What did you do to them?

The main thing I did to the drums, was reducing the knock of the snare in the OHs, I used a transient designer for that.

Also for the snare, I used a TD to lower the knock and enhanced the zZap. If you know what I mean.

oh alright sorry, i was just wondering because when i first opened up the files in logic i realized that the background vocals were out of order with the song, but after listening to them alone and hearing the headphone bleed i kind of figure out where they went!

and for guitar all i did was 12db hipass to 140hz, a ~5db cut at ~295hz and compress with t-racks fairchild which seems to enhance the mids a bit and add the nice punch
