First Logic Pro 9 MIX, AMAZING!

First mix in Logic Pro 9 worked flawless.

I wanted to try out all the new functions (Flex tool etc.)
For that I needed a song that was off in timing, not only drums, but all instruments.

One of my friends had produced a band where the tracks was not so
hot, so he sent me the logic 8 project. I opened it in Logic 9
mixed it with the internal fx only and corrected the timing with
the new FLEX TOOL.

Here is the old mix from my producer buddy:
http://www.catherinemusic.se/nastycutsjan.mp3

This is my corrected and remixed (LOGIC 9) version:
http://www.catherinemusic.se/nastycuts.mp3

Compare the two, and you'll soon be switching to Logic 9 =)
Listen to the timing-fixes!

Leave feedback if you have the time!

btw! I know his cymbals sound weak.

Definitely : Night and Day !!!

BTW , Have you also used any kind of drum trigger replacement ?
It seams you did . I know that logic 9 also features a function like that .

Anyhow , congrats !!! Awesome mix

Thank for all the positive!

Yes I used Logics new (Easier way of doing it than in logic 8) Drum Replacer.
And used a sampled bass drum and a sampled snare drum to blend with the real sounds.
Just to get a little more "Stomp".

Audio editing in Logic 9

How are the audio editing features in Logic 9 compared to Pro Tools 8? I was particularly interested in the new drum replacer feature they talk about on apple.com. Is it as good as Sound replacer or Drumagog?

Finally, is the audio quantizing feature simpler to use and more efficient than beat detective in PT8?

Thanks!

Call me crazy, but I liked the first one better, esp. the feel of the main section of the song. They sound (feel) like a band here and there.

Second mix's sounds and mix are more refined, but the edited feel is so perfect it's less interesting. Sounds like every other band on earth - after being edited.

Good job on the editing - this is an artistic comment only. IMOYMMV

thanks for the demo.
you are obviously a better mixer than your producer buddy...

how much of that would have been possible in 8?

I have 8 and am looking/thinking about 9.. I don't often have to deal with drum replacements or timing issues...

the Vox and guitars sounded MUCH juicier on the 2nd mix.. (through my little computer speaks at work) is that better plug ins or just more talent on your part?

I would love to hear your mix in 8 to compare with your mix in 9...

did you do any ITB mastering? all Logic plug ins?

I will have to say you got the tune up to listenable status

I can see your point ... and really know what you mean . BUT ... looking at the picture from the bussines side , it's a whole different story . This should be debated on another thread wich I'd gladly join in .

Thank for all the great replays.

Some one raised the question if it would have been possible to make an mix like this in Logic pro 8. The answer is Yes.

But it would have taken a lot of time and effort in correcting those timing issues.
Logic pro 9 is really great for that.

I saw now that I lied a little in my first post, I have used 2 plugins that does not come with logic. Soundtoys Echoboy, and a PSP Vintagewarmer.
Everything in the mix, is made ITB, no outboard gear is used.

To be honest with u all, I hate this kind of music.. haha.. no.. hate is a strong word but I can certainly see logicheads point.
He liked the first mix better, it sounded more like a band to him.. more for real.. And it does to me to.. I like the dirty garage feeling..
but in a commercial world a band like this should sound like the second mix to come anywhere..
I made the mix from the point of view anyway.. Referenced listened to Yellowcard and a Swedish band called Blindside.

Does anyone have any complains about the mix?

Nicely done! Your mix is really great, but I have to agree with some of the other posters that your new one might be just a little TOO tight ;-)

Great mix.

GR8 mix mate, tell me, what does the Swedish government put in the water to make so many Swedes so talented?

Man, huge difference. First one drove me nuts. Timing variations are a good thing but they just felt very off timing. I hate when bands are ahead of the beat and out of pocket. You mix sounds like a record. Nice verb usage too.

Thumbs up

Was researching if to upgrade to logic 9 and found this post..
And I registered just so that I could post this reply or I was happy being a lurker which I have been for a long time now..
The original mix is more 'alive' but the second mix is sonically better, though I think u have used quite a number of enhancers or phase tools which are kind of putting some unwanted pressure on to the ears that dont feel good.. Or compressor use without automation.. So its a bit flatter.. Which can get uninteresting for the brain after sometime maybe like 1minute into the mix..
No offence its a good mix and you are talented so I thought I might as well give you another perspective..

Nice, nice, nice. I loved it.

How much time was spent on the first mix compared to the 2nd mix?
