| You went extreme with the widener, the guitars from the sides mask everything in the middle- decrease the side gain by 2 to 4 db. Also some depth can be good to those guitars on the sides but thats more optional... Solo guitars tone could be fatter in the mix if possible after decreasing the side's-too much mud so better not to comment more. |

Thread Starter | I didn't do the mastering. This is a VERY ROUGH master. He did it in like 10 minutes just to give us an Idea of what it should sound like.

I mean if you want comments on a mix you should post the mix right? or if you want comments on the master then post the true master. | |

| Trying too hard.... From your other post on this, I think there was a lot of good advice, and it's not right to re-post a quick master and say, "What do you think?". In the other post, somone, can't remember who right now, commented that you are overmixing it, and I have to agree. I think you are SO close to the project, that now you are starting to suck the life out of it. There is that "Law of diminishing Returns" thing......Actually, from the other post, you posted a second song, that wasn't "worked on"so much, and I thought it sounded better, it had more bottom and mids. You can work on this one song until you die, and still find things you don't like about it, but get it to where it sounds good and then, "Release" it. If you get it sounding right to you, then it won't matter what anyone on this board thinks, you'll know it's right. In my opinion, your working on it too much. I would take about a month away from it. Then remix it from scratch with a fresh perspective, and then let it go and make some more music, while you have someone else master it. Your'e too close to it! Honestly, the song, production, musicianship is really good. Trust that and move on. |

| I agree about the widener... There is lots of weird phase stuff going on. Everything sounds over processed and very unnatural. This is what my mixes sounded like when I was learning to mix. I had the monitors really loud, so I was fatigued, and then i went a little overboard with plugs on the master bus. I think this mix might sound nice if the funky master processing was fixed. Take everything off the master bus, don't do any limiting, and repost. I bet it will sound quite a bit better. |
