session with a 1930's gibson

Hi All: I recorded these 1 man band songs today with a 1930's gibson guitar with a vintage dearmond soundhole pickup. Walter

thanks for checking the songs out. Here is a photo of it and its cousin, a late 30's kalamazoo, which I actually like sound/playability better than the gibson. The problem is there are a few buzz spots on the neck and the dearmond really makes them shine- like a heavy metal sounding guitar! I am going to get the kalamazoo fixed soon. Walter

Raw. With a rich sound. Perfect blend.

Nice work Walter.

Watched the vid too. You wear a suit and tie in your basement studio? Ha, just kidding. Really, I appreciate the serious approach. No kidding there.

I never have tried a 4 string guitar. You are lucky to have one. That one in the video looked nice too!

Hi Timothy: thanks for checking out the tunes. I have been recording about 3-4 hours a day lately and playing with mic placements and trying to get the mics positioned so as to not have to use any, or very little eq. I bought a bunch of Univeral audio plugins about a year ago and thought I had to really spin the dials to get my moneys worth. Then my friend, that is a world class pianist and well know recording engineer, was by our house last month and suggested the mic/eq puzzle to me. There is so much to learn within a tiny range with this recording thing- an incredibly simple yet complex puzzle! I figure the rest of my life will be spent with trying to get it to sound like I want it to. Walter

Wow, great harp playing in that video!!! That alone is impressive, and then to see you playing all the other instruments....definitely tight.

thanks! I have become a 1 man band because after quiting playing full time in the mid 90's, it was near impossible to find the caliber of musicians I had. I also got tired of all the getting/keeping a band together stuff. Now I am totally self contained musically and recording wise. Walter
