"Food For Thought" by Breathless - PLEASE LISTEN AND GIVE YOUR OPINION :)

Please listen to this new song of mine and let me know what you think.

Everything is done by me (rapping/production/beat) except the beat boxing.

NOTE: This is not meant to be a "radio song". It is meant to show stamina and lyrical skill.

This is my first song where i had access to a sound proof booth. I think those who appreciate good lyrics will like this song. Feel free to critique the sound quality as well. I used Pro Tools 8 (Mbox, Analogue), Izotope Ozone 4, a few Waves plugins, etc. I have been trying to get that "in your face" vocal for a long time. I think I may be getting close. The mic was a Shure SM7B

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean in particular about this song. I think I sound a good deal different from Eminem, both content and delivery, and beat wise too...

Not that I haven't heard that before though....

Sounds like you know how to rap and write.
My advice (based on this one song): Get some fresher productions, start writing some good hooks, and write more focused. Your point (if you have any) gets lost in this track..

But that's if you want to try to live off it. If you wanna keep it "underground", keep doing what you're doing!

Thanks for the advice! By "Fresher Productions", do you simply mean better equipment?

This particular song was basically just to show lyrical skill and stamina. I do have "a point", but there are also a lot of little points that you will not get by listening to it once, and I understand that. I like making it so that the song has a lot of replay value because you can't get everything the first time around. The more you start to get what I'm saying, the more you can "get into" the song.

I do understand though that people generally like to hear a good chorus. Next ones going to be just that.

No! A more up to date sound! But that is hard. Because I don't mean "go out and copy Timbaland". Make your own sound, but make it sound like 2009 and not underground like Atmosphere or other "underground" cats. Unless that's the sound you want!

I'm sure it's some "deep shit" in your mind. But your point doesn't come across. At least not to me.. And I don't feel like listening to it again! Cause the production didn't do anything for me! Nor was there a hook that caught my attention or made your point clear! Had the production and/or a hook been dope (or present!) I probably would have listened to it again and caught all your small little points in time after several replays, which might have made it a really dope song as a whole!

I hope you don't take it personal. I tried to be constructive!
You got talent! But you need to think business if you wanna live off it (unfortunately)!
That's just my 2 cents!

I appreciate your feedback, thanks :)

Nope, I don't take it personal. Everyone has their own tastes. My goal is to get people who don't normally want to listen to rap to listen to my stuff. I will take your criticisms into account.

Yup that was the SM7B as well. You made my day with that comment, thanks dude. I've always struggled to get that kind of "sound", and now I'm finally learning how to, and it doesn't even require expensive equipment. Its mostly Ozone 4's multiband compression and harmonic exciter doing the work :)
