Thread Starter | Can anyone help me get this bass sound? Strings?Amp?Mic?Preamp?Eq?Compressor? etc...
The bass on here sounds so good to me. Bassy yet clear and you can hear it distinct from everything else. Any tips would be appreciated. Amp type (solid state vs. tube)? Mic type? Mic placement? Eq usage? Tone control on bass? Bridge pickup vs neck pickup ratio. Compressor type and settings? Direct signal vs. amp ratio. And anything else... Thanks!

I feel it's because nobody else than the bass is playing in the same frequency range, piano, guitar & banjo are more in the upper freq. range, they give "air" to the bass ! Quality of an arrangement is very often THE solution before any EQ, comp, blah blah... |

There is nothing down there. It sounds to me that they knew the bass player rocked. They centered the whole song around him. If the bass was removed, the song would collapse. He is the entire bottom end. I was suprised how high passed the piano was. On the sound of the bass, it doesn't have a lot of highend nor lowend. You don't hear any finger noise or rattle. It is likely low passed pretty heavily. On the bottom, it isn't beefy. To me, not a seasoned pro, it sounds more like a DI bass with compression. It is kind of a middle of the road sound and it doesn't move an inch (it can't afford to). | |

Unfortunately, I don't remember. ![]() He may be coming thursday to track. I'll make notes. Sorry. ![]() If we do track. I will have samples as well. He trends to have a bit more top that what I heard you refer to. However, I can low pass it and see how it sounds. |
