Track of first "real" project

Hey, this is one of the tracks of my bands first released cd... I thought I'd share it with you all to get some feedback... go easy as it's my first real project and I'm working with very minimal gear..

As this was released around a month ago theres already a few things I would change... but I'll keep them quiet so as not to influence any commenters opinions... thanks

i definetly hear some phase issues. Multiple miking? Stereo Delay on the guitars maybe? Otherwise sounds really good.

Thanks, yeah.. there are some phase issues between the guitars... paticuarly in the chorus.. I'm not quite sure how this happened.. the guitar was done direct using two different amps then running out of their pre amp outs onto the computer.. then using Amplitube as a speaker and power amp emulator.. so in theory they should be perfectly phase aligned (well... atleast in what little theory I know)

I thought I should probably put some info here on how it was recorded to give you an idea of what I was working with..

I did the Drumms at my school on a protools 002 rig using a spirit studio desk for pre's.. the mic setup was as follows

Snare- 57
Kick- D-112
overheads- Mann M11 (I wish I'd hired something better now)
Rack 1 and 2- md421's
Floor- M88

the room was of a reasonable size with about 8-9 foot high ceilings.. carpeted floor and there were alot of thick curtains around unfourtionately which meant I had to add in alot of the drum ambience with Reverb later

All the other tracks were done at my house using a hoontech dsp24value in cubase sx 2.

the guitars (as earlier mentioned) were done using a marshall tsl-2000 and a laney all valve head (can't remember the model).. I went direct out of them into the sound card and used amplitube as a speaker emulator .. my main reason for doing this rather than micing was the gear and rooms on hand.. the guitar sound came out better than expected.. except in the chorus of this song where they were mysteriously out of phase!

Bass was simply direct in using an aphex bass exciter pedal

Vocals were done using a beyer soundstart 2 and an NT-1a (I can't remember which was used for each part of this song) through a Behringer mic 100 (all I owned in the way of pre's at the time) and a DBX 376 channel strip (borrowed of a friend for the first day of vocals, the rest had to be done on the mic 100)

Mixing was all ITB using mainly waves plugins.. also the TLA audio eq was used quite abit and the sonalkasis compressor was used in mastering

Nice song writing, but it might just be be but the sound is a little "harsh". It probably suits the genre. I would have brought the vocals up a tad and boosted the lower end of the midrange to add some more "body" to the vox.

Great work!
