Thread Starter | mixcontest (...practice mixing?) with songs recorded by DR.DOCTOR
Hello from Finland! We are Top-40 band (or coverband, partyband or a rockband...) called "DR.DOCTOR". We have been recording few songs during this winter. Before this we have promoted our band just using poorly sounding live performances and as you know that isnt the best option. What comes to these songs, i have tried to do some mixing but as i already recorded and played on these songs... I really do not have any strenght to continue. You now, im too familiar with these... Mainly use will be promoting us at our site to sell gigs. Songs will also may be delivered to radio stations around Finland. Some of which we have contacts and some we dont. As nature of playlist business we really cant guarantee any playing. We will, of course mention your name and studio everywhere song is available. Mixed tracks will be mastered at Finnvox studios (Finnvox Studiot / Finnvox Studios), using their E-Mastering service. Or, if you have better suggestions? You have the skillz and you want to master it by yourself? There WILL be three song to choose from: Billy Idol: Rebell Yell, Pet Shop Boys: Its A Sin or Seal: Crazy. You will find short unmixed samples of those from our server: http://www.dr-doctor.com/promomixfil...ell_Sample.mp3 http://www.dr-doctor.com/promomixfil...Sin_Sample.mp3 http://www.dr-doctor.com/promomixfil...azy_Sample.mp3 For Billy Idol and Seal... wed like to have songs mixed that it sounds very, well, rock and raw! For Pet Shop Boys we have no idea. But as always, building a mix is up to you. We will be the judge in this ![]() Hey, we liked the idea to give this community the opportunity here. If nones interested, we just have to do it by ourselves or buy service somewhere. Please note that we are not hunting for a free mix here (well yes, sort of...), but, well try to figure some prize for contest winner Maby we will donate some euros for you? We dont know if thats okay here? First we were about to start this thread at one of those finnish mixing forums, but then decided to ask here first. So, if there are anyone interested i will upload all files to a webserver and share that link here. Also, all needed detail will be posted here at same time. There will be no actual deadline on this but wed like to have finished work to be ready within two to three weeks after i post all files. As for now one song is missing all guitars and vocals. Also, backing vocals will be recorded for every song. Please tell us if this idea is ok and from which song you are interested? Thanks in advance! -bassotohtori- dr. doctor - hevidiskoa rokkimeiningillä! |

I'm also interested in this project. Since there won't be a very close mixer/producer relationship (not as close as face to face, that is), I think we really need to know what is to be expected of the mix engineer. Most importantly, how much artistic license are we expected to take, if any? For example.. if we thought that a synth line should be heavily processed, or have a large amount of FX applied, are we free to do what we see fit? If a part isn't working, are we free to change the part? What I'm getting at, is how much of a producer hat can we wear? I suppose as much as we want, and if you don't like it, you'll pass on it. ![]() It's a good idea though. I'll certainly be using it to fight off brain fatigue on other projects |

Thread Starter | Producer hat...
Well, well. You nailed the point here. If we don't like it, we will just ignore it. Then, these songs are somewhat tour-proven and played like this for many shows. If you feel there is something wrong with arrangement, lets discuss it here first. When i am mixing, ie. bass is almost always having compression, distortion and some filters on it. I dont really know if my bandmates like it or not. These are our first "real" recordings. At stage i just go with bass and DI. There sure are certain sounds in our synthetizers that are, well, critical. What the hell, i dont know... But we hope that anything in the world you do, please remember that we kinda want to be a rockband. Please feel free to see what fits, still, always remain a good taste. ...But i think you all know this already. This will evolve very interesting and we are anxcious to see it happen!!! |
