| Cool song. Who is the group? I love it. Drums sound nice and snappy. I am not listening on my studio monitors, so I might not be hearing the whole picture. Tell about the recording chain....What did you use on the guitars? What amps? Where is the band out of? I would definitely buy it. |

Thread Starter | thanks barrnes! glad you like it, the band is called Fennel seeds from north wales, Uk. they're a new band. First time recording. Pretty damn good band tho! The guitar chain was a fender tele into orange Ad 30 mic'ed with a single sm57. Left guitar channel had a maxon od9 tubescreamer infront of it also. mic pre was a focusrite isa428. |

| Overall I think it was well done. Great job A couple small details that I heard - (These are just my opinions, you might hear something different.) The acoustic guitar in the intro has a little too much string noise. That could have been just the guitar itself or you might have miked it too close to the neck of the guitar. From a production standpoint I think it sounds a little empty. More held out melodic vocal harmonies would fill it out nicely I think. I did like how non-overproduced it sounds though. That gives a great natural vibe. Mixing wise - I thought the drums were a little bit too up front and the guitar tracks were too far in the back. |

Thread Starter | Thanx for the crit. I agree about the harmonies, but the band were adamant to keep it as natural as possible. The non-overproduced vibe was exactly what we were going for. Was abit of a change for me as the projects i usually work on have big and polished productions. i did try to bring the drums down a touch while mixing, but the song just didnt seem to drive or punch the way i wanted it to when they were lower. |
