Cool Thanks....will dig to stick some vocals in there sometime....
Anyway, I agree, it could do with some more ReVerb on the Snare.....
Anyway, was fun...will get on to your ballad soon soon....

Hi D0pehat, thank you for enjoying my song!
Well, about your mix, I only think you should tweak the master volume up
Dim the snare treble a little bit.

It sounds like a Filter on the master bus....Cubase has a filter called Tonic would be able to achieve this....But I suppose best for Stevedresser to explain exactly what he did?

Cool idea! Here's my attempt. Going from .wav to 192k mp3 drops alot of the highs... I didn't account for that very well, but I'm sharing anyway...

They are archives of the wave files. You need winRAR to uncompress the files.

Supernosher, thanks for sharing your mix!
My impressions:
The cymbals are too loud and there's too much reverb.
Tweak the EQ a little bit, I think it's bass
Cool L and R idea on the solo, but I think it should be only at the beginning.

skidwasted - Thanks!

Also, what instrument were you referring to with the EQ tweaks? I know I went a little overboard with the lows on the guitars. Is that what you mean?

I can't figure out how to get my automation of the effects to work, it turns the volume on the solo down for some reason. I'm using Reaper, if anyone can help me out.

LoL, I like that question :-)

wav files will work fine in any mac app that supports multitrack mixing. They just need to be imported by your app however it says in your instruction manual.

I can't download the files - I'd love to give this a shot.

maybe I should settle for the acoustic one instead?

Dkelley, have you tried unrar the files with the UnRarX - Mac OS X RAR Extraction Utility Sport posted?
The acoustic song files are .rar as well...
I found this program to unrar on Mac
RAR Expander

Well Supernosher, then I guess the low excess is coming from the guitars.

Here's a rough mix of mine. Still have to sort some levels and a slight bit of snare and kick blending but nearly finished it.

Mix - eSnips, share anything

My mix

Done with headphones trough MBP output.

Done in logic, Used Toontrack Drumtracker to convert the drum to MIDI and then Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 to redo the drums (did it mainly for the Snare and Ambient mics) some minor EQ on kick and toms, running the entire kit trough multicompressor

Doubled the bass track, put the first one trough a pretty harsh EQ-ing into a multicompressor, the second one trough EQ and guitar rig (some heavy metal guitar-preset) for more growl

Lo cut a lot of the guitars, like everything below 150hz or so.

Guitars were panned hard right/left and mid left/right, solo guitar track was trough PSP lexicon 42 with double preset

Then did some 5-min mastering (well, loudening), using mostly the Flux solera II plugin.

Compressing by it's very nature is throwing out data. For certain the lossless codecs are removing data to save space, the idea that they are recreating that data flawlessly on the output would be a hard one for me to believe...

Well sorry but lossless compression is lossless and your assumption is incorrect.

am i the only one hearing REALLY duff notes in the bass parts? there's a bad harmonic clash in those climbing up/down bits, like at at 0:16 & 1:27 - it sounds badly out with the guitar to my ears

(i aint heard the individual tracks yet, just 2 of the mixes posted here)

I mean in the studio i'd be going "whoah whoah guys guys stop a minute!"

am i going nuts? cos i didnt see anyone mention it (didnt read whole thread tho)

Well... To me the term "compression" is the exact opposite of "lossless"... If you're not allowed to throw anything out then it, by the sheer nature it's not compressed.

I'm not gonna get into an argument about what anyone tries to convince you; like mp3 sounds just as good as wav, a Peluso 2247 sounds just like a U47, my girlfriend is just as good looking as Heidi Klum etc etc

This is purely a semantic issue... Lossless and compression don't go together. Period.

I don't really have anything else to say, there is nothing to argue about.
My post is based on fact and yours is based on superstition.

If your theory was true, compressing an application with ZIP would mean
after you unZIPped it, it would no longer work anymore.
The word compression doesn't mean what you think it means.
You don't have to take my word for it, do some research for yourself.
