Finished Project for Comment/Gear Comparison

Hey everybody,

I just finished a new project that I'm pretty proud of and would love to share. The other reason I wanted to post it is because I recorded in my "home studio" (corner of my apt living room) with a signal chain a lot of people may be thinking about, and it's a good example of the results you can get with this gear. The album is available for free download at wolffrocks.com | Jordan Wolff

All recording was done through an Apogee Duet into my Macbook Pro with no additional analog gear. Electric guitar and bass were recorded DI into the Duet, and I used presets in Logic to mimic the mic'd sounds. Acoustic guitar was doubled with one track straight DI into the Duet, and a second track mic'd with a Neumann TLM 103. All synths and pads were stock Logic 8. I also used Logic 8 drums loops for all percussion with some fills and additions added using a midi controller.

For vocals, I also used the TLM103 straight into the Duet with the Logic Plugins. However, I found that the Logic Deesser wasn't really useable (and had some tech problems with Spitfish on my intel processor), so I used Antares Sibilant for free during the ten day trial period. It's not the best plugin, but it works somewhat and was easier than automating the audio to reduce volume for the entire song.

I mixed the album myself at home and Brad Blackwood at Euphonic Masters did a phenominal mastering job (use him, he's awesome).

Anyway, I think a lot of people are considering the Duet with Logic 8. I've also seen a ton of discussion on the merits of the TLM103 mic and what it can do through certain preamps including the Duet. At the very least, this should be a decent example of results with that setup.

Hope you guys like it!
