Mix on Pro Tools 8.0 (using lots of the new fx) Pop/Rock

I used tons of the new Air FX (distortion, wah, flange, eq, etc.)

Let me know what you guys think!!

Thanks!

We're just finishing up 6 songs. The band are some young guys (17-20 yrs old) based here in Miami, "Midnight Shift".

you can check my site: Phuturetrax Recording Studio, Miami FL for more tunes by the band. (I run a Miami recording studio.)

Nice mix. The drums and bass are really sounding good: tight, punchy, and clear. Vocals were nice, too.

I wish I sounded that good when I was 17! I think I still have some cassettes around from the very early 80's when I was that age. I should dig them out for a good laugh. Now I am even more impressed (how young & talented the musicians are) with the song

That drummer and bass player are damn good unless of course it was all elastic audio, how much elastic audio did you use...http://www.gearslutz.com/board/image...ies/nu/061.gif

The drummer is really good. I did minimal edits. No Beat Detective. I added in a sampled kick.

The bass, on the other hand, took me hundreds of edits.

Nice sound man. The effects seem to blend in nicely... not obtrusive at all. Can't wait to try the AIR plugs myself.

I think its Ok... but I feel that the high mid and highs are too in your face comparing with the Low-low mid....the mix needs more total balance and the vocals , specially at the Choruses are so out of tune! seriously that just killed me....scary!

Agreed. Thanks for the constructive criticism. I used a lot of distortion which I think contributes to this. Perhaps boosting some lows in the bass... and cutting some of the hi's. I'll repost a revised mix after Xmas.

The tuning issues in the CH Vox don't really bother me. I guess I like that rub.

Any other suggestions appreciated!

Here's the final product. Thanks for all the feedback. The band and I are pretty happy with the way it came out!

Mastered version sounds great.

Much improved over the first mix posted before. The only things i would have done differently would be try to set the brass parts back a little in the mix, maybe with a little sutble reverb. Based on the first hit of the snare drum (before the music comes in) i would have also liked to of heard this just a little more in the mix, as it has a nice deep warm sound to it that has impact and loads of tonality.

Other than than, great mix and fantastic song.
