Red face Obscuresounds - Here to Rock (Sampling / Hip-hop ala. DJ Shadows or BRA)

Hey guys,

Ok, just completed a project which I reckon sounds ok on the NS-10's.

Would appreciate any feedback anyone has on the track as it's quite err 'heavy' in a sampling sense. Anyone who knows Bentley Rhythm Ace will know the style of the track.

It's based on Cecil Leuter’s “Pop Electronique” which attempted to meld acoustic with electronic sounds in the spirit of ‘69.

Enjoy!

Bit brief though. Good luck with it
Cheers

Hey Lute,

Thanks for the comment! Care to elaborate on some of your thoughts?

Def agree it could be longer - hmm, might have a think about that one!

The main issue was it's not long enough really. Might help if we knew the project, that could explain why it's so short........

This sounds ****ing fun. I really dig it. It's like Avalanches meets Go! Team meets Beck meets In the Jungle Groove meets Dave Weckl on acid meets Tranquility Bass.

Nice job!

Hey guys!

Vum - Really glad you liked it! The feedback has been great so far, although it'll def have to go through some professional mastering. Hoping to continue down this style if all goes well...

Lute - It's my own project... always loved working with samples to create stuff, and decided that I might as well have a crack at creating a few sample-based songs to see how they'd come across. Def agree that it's shortness is a negative factor. I have a few ideas for lengthening it, but I'll have to experiment.

----

Tracks been updated again - Decided that I was going a bit overkill with the limiting, so cleanly re-mixed the song over the Mackie 32:8... I made sure everything sat a bit better in the analogue domain before going back in to Nuendo for more detailed level tweaking. So this time it has no limiting as such (drums going through an Eventide Orville "dirty mastering box" patch to even off those crashes, but that's it).

I also placed some triggered subs on the kick drums as I felt the track was losing it's bottom definition.

The sliding Octave CAT synth for the drum breaks at 00:43 & 2:00 have been improved due to the increased headroom, and I think it comes across a lot more cleaner than before.

Added a nice MS-20 LFO sound (gotta love the reverse sawtooth lfo's on this thing!) at the end of the track and made sure it was going through some RE-501 feedback.

Overall, it ain't the best EQ'ing in the world, but as Vum mentioned... it's a fun track, and thats the market I want.

I read your article earlier where you mention what you sampled - I knew I heard Peter Gabriel in there somewhere...right?

Hey Vum,

Heh - a few of my mates have also been trying to pin down the samples as well. No Peter Gabriel samples in there - which track were you thinking of?

Should really list my samples a bit more clearly... once I get back in the studio this weekend I'll gather all the info and update that article.

Hmm... didnt realise it until I listened to the track quietly, but noticed some clipping on the drum track at 00:35, and 1:52... Going to have to sort that out. :S

Shit - I meant Peter Murphy. Bauhaus.

I rad out of tea yesterday so everything I wrote was in the depths of an ether binge like withdrawl symptom.
