Two new recordings, of the same band - Wave and Mystic Initiation: SoundClick artist: Neo-Sonix Studios - page with MP3 music downloads The recording room is my somewhat acoustically treated tracking/control/whatever room (rockwool, basically) - 4.5x4x2.7m3 in size. All the band was recorded at once, in an effort to capture as much energy as possible - it was their request, which is also the way I enjoy working. Drums were Mapex M-Birch with Paiste Alpha cymbals, guitar was a Gibson Les Paul Studio into Laney 100W tube amp and 2x12" V30 cab, and bass was recorded direct from a Eden WT550/D410 (used for "monitoring" and blowing my ears out). Recording gear was low end: Saffire 10 AD/DA and preamps, Oktava MK012, Audio-Technica ATM250, SM57, Audix i5, Oktava MK319. The recording was made via Reaper (love that bastard), mixed with freeware plug-ins, and some outboard (Kurzweil Rumour, Lexicon Reflex and LXP-5). They wanted a airy, wide, roomy recording - not clinical, but more "old school", real-band-in-real-room sorta thing. Love that concept. ![]() Any opinions/suggestions on improving this recording? (except the obvious "don't use such low quality streaming sites?") Mihai Toma Last edited by Mandachuva; 11th September 2008 at 01:19 PM.. Reason: Added one more song |

I'm so caught up in how great Kyuss records sound so all other stoner records seem bleach... I think you have done a great job though - kinda miss vocals though. I miss some midrange mud to make everything come together in a lovely rock smoke of honey and joy! The cymbals seem a little bright and the bass would sound cooler if it was filling up the low-end like a evil thunder. Cool music - thanks for sharing bro!

Thanks for the feedback, greatgreatriver! I myself think that I may have made a little bit too clean/modern/whatever of a mixdown for this genre... I'll check with the band to see what is their opinion on this.Keep it coming! Mihai Toma |
