Bang's Newest Blackline Track

here is a clip of our newest blackline track, REPENT... Its probably my favorite of our tunes.. this is a "work in progress mix" and the master is quite hot... but sounds pretty good to my ears.. on a lot of new commercial rock releases, the kick drums have been WIMPY so I really wanted a beefy kick for this mix while still having a nice deep bass guitar sound. So lets hear what you think, fire away.

Sounds professional as hell. Nothing to complain about in the mix but isn't the vocals a bit off in the beginning? The timing with the guitar sounds wierd to me.

Thanks for the compliments so far... I tried to sing the vox right on with the guitar on the intro but it came out weird because it was so quick that it almost seemed like I was rapping, so I went ahead and got off the beat a bit and extended things a bit more. Sounded better to me then being right on with it... also, we redid the intro guitar to try to fit better with it (the intro ISN'T on the click) but I guess it wasn't good enough! I'll consider redoing the intro to the original ON TIME guitar intro. My bassist and I had a LOT of heat about this! I was hoping no one would think twice of it.. oh well...

Hey Bang, Great Mix!! The quitars/vox sound fantastic and the song is kickin!

Just a question, if you are the engineer/mixer, how do you go about tracking your
own vocals? Do you have someone to hit the record button in the control room?

Since I am a drummer and will be recording myself soon, i was wondering what
is the best way to go about this. Depending on your setup, recording yourself can be a bit of a pain.

I need an 11 on the volume control thumbsup

A powerful song and a lovely presence to the guitars, kicking drums, and a good mix throughout, IMO.

I enjoyed that, thanks.

Bas.

yeah, nice mix. the instruments each have a nice and unique space. the kick seemed maybe just a tad loud. I like the subtle vocal effect . what kind of compressors are you using?

I just sit right in my control room chair (or sometimes I'll stand up), hit record, hold a pop filter with one hand, and the condensor mic with the other. I have'nt used a stand in quite a while. Recording drums will be harder, but I've done that too. Just leave ten to fifteen seconds before the project starts, and then run your ass to the drum room!

Wallace, for this mix it was UAD LA-2As, dbx 160X and A, and a Smart C1 on the whole mix.

I bought a wireless keyboard exactly for this. Works great. Excellent range anywhere in the studio, even through walls, iso's etc.

The vocal seems a bit loud in the verse. I dont know if thats the effect you are goig for, but you might consider turning it down or the guitar under it up. Other than that and the minor timing issues, it is sounding good as usual.
