Cool Finished project...

I have just finished tracking and mixing this band I'm producing in my studio.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Disclaimer: I'm not a music professional, so this is a layman's opinion...The drums sound a little thin (though very clear), did you use overheads at all? Also, while the lead vocal sounds good, it doesn't "sit" in the mix, but rather towers over it, imo. Another that strikes me is that the mix sounds "compacted", not very wide, spacially, or extended in frequency (esp. on the lower end), sounding a lot like mono, yet, the elements don't mesh that well--can't reconcile that, would have to see how it's mixed, panned, etc. Did you put the mix through a compressor--actually, obviously you did, but that's one place you can lose the spread a little. Depending on the buss compressor, see if you can unlink the channels and adjust the two sides by ear. Harder to do, but sometimes better preserves stereo separation. Cool blues/rock track, though.

Very good feedback, and I agree about the stereo image. I did use overheads for the drums panned hard left/right. I will split the mono channels and try what you suggest.

Thanks,
Rob

great advices from rwhitney

I just wanna say good work, sounds good! I like the Hihat, tambourine sounds great resolution/highs - even on this mp3.

The bass is a little buried maybe. I would also play a little more with the kick and bass get them glued in the bottom.

Great song.

Thanks for the kind words it's very appreciated.

On the CD the low end seems much tighter, you can actually feel the bass/kick, listening to the .mp3 again it seems to have lost it a bit.

This song is the only song of the six I tracked that I used a kick sample mixed with the original kick because I felt the kick wasn't carrying the song on it's own.

Thanks again.

I use extra kick all the time it's great to add some lo end to the kick and you can tweak it to fit the bass.

Great!
