how can i make this mix better

alright, this is a rough mix but for the most part i really like it. I want it to smack you on your head as much as possible. My biggest concern right now are the spacial effects which there really arent any at this point. How would you guys go about adding space to this tune but still keeping things up front?????

or should i leave it the **** alone??

i noticed the muffled sound too. Thats definately something in the mp3 encoding. This is actually one of the brighter mixes that i've done in a while.

Takin my first listen through...

There is a weird compression thing going on with overheads..or it's a room mic that's really compressed...or i could be just trippin..but I don't like it..sounds unnatural.

at 2:46...I can hear the gate/fade on the tom...and it's very unnatural also..s'ok to let those things ring a little after they're hit

Sounds like ur mixing audience perspective on the drums..but it sounds like the ride is too close to the middle..and gets a lot of attention..especially away from that main voc.

That tick Tick Tick thing on the hihat bugs me too ..sounds like ur automating it...

Overall it sounds pretty dull..I would add some shine to the overheads...then add some top end to the snare..cause it sounds like a box to me...and isn't hittin hard enough(whack!)..

Add some top end to those guitars...let them bite...because they are lacking shine also..

You could probably notch ur main vox up 2db...cause I'm not hearing the resonance of the notes(meaning volume too low)..I can hear the backrounds much better when it comes in on the chorus...

You might want to mess with puttin a little reverb on some stuff..like vocals...could be one of those instances where you can't tell it's there..but you can when it's not.

Again, biggest thing that bugs the hell out of me is that heavy heavy compression sound on the overheads..

hope this helps at all...

brian.

Vocals need to come out a little more(my opinion).

It sounds really compressed, and i know that is the sound of modern rock, still i would open it up a touch(especially in the chorus) to give it a little contrast.

Hihat/ride can come down in the verse.

Maybe bring the attack/click down overall for the kick(again an opinion).

Some of these things can be solved in mastering, others should be fixed before.

Good job and good luck.
