Warming up my sound...

Hi Everyone !!

This is a clip of me playing, no effects, no eq.... all I have done here is pan some instruments. To me this sounds very brittle.... Any idea's how I can warm this kind of sound up ? The family of instruments is called Tamburica and is primarily played in Croatia and Eastern Europe.

My chain here was a Soundelux U195 into a Avalon AD2022 into my BLA modded Delta 1010. This is basically the only type of music I am or will be recording, so a total change in equipment is not out of the question (There is typically also a ryhtem type acoustic guitar and a fretted standup bass)

Maybe a change in gear is needed ? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated

Thanks everyone !!

Steve

I think that it sounds nice and clear. Try giving it a couple more inches of room. That might ease the highs a bit. You have a nice chain, just do what you can with mic placement. I always read about this mic and that mic sounding too whatever,.... some people think that you just put up a mic and record and that's what it is. I'd like to hear some more tracks with some more mic placements.

does sound a bit narrow....and i dont think its your fault that it dosent sound warm enough. It sounds like your instruments are not providing the right harmonics. No one's fault, just sounds like its all happening to close together. maybe a cello or an accoustic gtr would help. just what i hear...

Thanks for the responses !! You are both right, the recording is incomplete and also needs to have an acoustic bass and a rythem guitar type instruments added (among a few others). It should help out.

Also, I tried a few more mic placements, and holy crap did it make a difference. I am off on vacation the next two weeks, and will post when I get back (I'll also be buying a new lead instrument while on my trip, which should sound much more mellow).

Yep - i think mic placement (or getting another mic as well that picks up a touch more low end) will be the answer - maybe decide which voice is the most important and mic the less important ones a little further back - give them some natural air and make them less in your face.

Everything is very clear at the moment, but no single instrument is the most important and that confuses my petty little brain a bit

Once you fill out the low end with that acoustic bass it'll start sounding much nicer.
