Thread Starter | NEW WORKING ATTACHMENT added - A VERY rough Demo (Genre - Soul/Groove)
This is also posted on studioforums.com, but not getting much of a response. Went round to my friend’s house, recorded about 5 vocals (5 songs) just too basic beats, for him to then put some music to with the intention of re-recording them properly to the music at a later date. Did one or two takes of each song into my C1 (no compression) into a crap pre-amp into his crap sound card, in between his mum hoovering and making us tea etc! He then played me a basic loop he was working on and I said, 'Hey, one of those songs would fit to that, but it'd be in a bit of a high key'! Anyway, we gave it a go and this is the result. Can you please give me your opinions of the song and vocals (vibe, lyrics etc) and not the production values, as I know they are poor. I have yet to go back and re-do the vocals and I know they are dodgy in places. Also, take into account that the structure is a bit boring as it is only a 2 bar loop, although, I kind of like the basic feel of it and all the people I have played it too are diggin it and still humming it for a few hours after! Well, all except the girlfriend who inspired it, she just said, 'Yeah, it's Ok'!! BTW, watch out for my 'vocal trumpet'! Cheers.

For some reason it downloads as an unreadable document for me, look into it. That's probably why there are no comments.

Here is a new attachment. Sorry, the last one was an AAC (misstake), which will play on Ipods etc. I have deleted it and posted this MP3 instead. Please give it another go and give me your opinions. Thanks |

Thanks again Squinty McGhee for letting me know that the attachment is not working (again). I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. I guess it could be something to do with being on AOL dial-up, as this has caused me various problems in the past! If anyone is interested in hearing my funky vibes, then please go to the link below, as this works! http://studioforums.com/eve/ubb.x?a=...24&m=450101948 Cheers |

Just thought I'd let you know that the attachment does work! When I downloaded it, it appeared to be called 'Attachment' rather than 'Don't Cry For Me' and XP did not recognise it as any particular file type. All I did was add .mp3 to the name and then Media Player played it fine. Give this a go and then please give me some opinions. Cheers |

Song wise and vocals wise i think a little bit of change in the melodies would break up the repetition. A lot of modern R&B is the same 4-8 bar loop through out and its up to the vocalist to change it up. No comments on the production since the song is not done. | |

Thanks guys, djui5: I assume you meant the bass line is too loud, not the whole track? Thanks. thethrillfactor: I am a fan of Maxwell, but I did not set out to make a song that sounded like him. I have since written a new verse that will sit between the two on the demo. I will change the melody a bit when I come to re-record the vocals to make it more interesting (less repetitive). This was always my intention; I just wanted to get a basic feel down for some opinions etc. Thanks again and any more comments are welcome. |

Did any more of the 63 people to download the demo manage to listen to it?
