Mixed, mastered, and partially tracked by meeeeee.

So a friend's band spent a day recording at a studio in the east village -- I got the files and pretty much everything was shite except for the drums (although the kick was a mess - thus the replacing).

So we retracked pretty much everything at my place, which is a crappy set up since none of my rooms are treated for recording, there wasn't time to improvise dampening, or do extra takes if someone was not treating the mic right. It was all done in a mad rush - did i mention for free? - you get the idea.

I mixed a 6 song demo for em - in the midst of mastering it now - and did it all for squat because the experience is cool ( I don't normally mix bands - I am more used to mixing my own electronic crap) and my friend disserved at least something half decent.

The Mc's pretty much can't flow --- drummer falls off a lot -- but not really in these 2 tracks --- the songs are not to my taste-- and I wish the recordings themeselves could have been done in a better room ---- but whateva - felt like i may as well post it up here.

All ITB mix/master, woohoo
These are 2 finalized ones for their demo.

Cheers~

I guess you're not really looking for comments, but...

Tune 1

You're right about the mc's... wow, I've seen cold motor oil with more flow.

Cool bass line and interesting "prograp." The chorus.... sucks. e sorry

The drummer, bassline, and "quika drum" sounding wah thing panned hard L/R are the strongest points of the tune.

Mix comments - nothing bugs me, sounds good. Hope they're not complaining since it was free.

Yes I agree --- Instrumentals were the stronger point here. Sometimes their flow alone was enough to mess up the entire feel of the track One of the MC's - was entirely too hard to mix due to his weird tonality + faked accent (see if you can spot which - not too hard).

The funk jazz rap thing is a great idea. You just need some good rappers over the funky beats - I couldnt understand 1 word they said. The reason Biggie was so good - 1 of the reasons, this goes for all great rappers - ENUNCIATION. Even if you have nothing important to say - say it clearly.

Listening to this made me go to Amazon and order Brand New Heavies - Heavy Rhyme Experience, which is an amazing album I lost about 5 years ago.

The track list:
1. Bonafied funk (Main Source)
2. It´s getting hectic (Gang Starr)
3. Who makes the loot? (Grand Puba)
4. Wake me when I´m dead (Masta Ace)
5. Jump n´move (Jamalski)
6. Death threat (Kool g. rap)
7. State of yo (Black Sheep)
8. Do whatta I gotta do (Ed o.g.)
9. Whatgaboutthat (Tiger)
10. Soul flower (The Pharcyde)
