Indie Rock - Be Great to hear your mixing feedback!

I've written & recorded a short song about a British Referee going to the Euro 2008 (the only Brit at the whole tournament!.... As our teams weren't good enough to get in!)

I'm not formally trained in mixing or mastering & would really appreciate some feedback. All that i've learn i've picked up from books & websites (like gearslutz) so all comments are welcome, no matter how obvious!

One pointer - The drums are Midi drums & samples (I dont have a real kit at my disposal). My question is, how obvious is it? If it is obvious, any ideas to make it more realistic.

Many thanks!

James

Nice song. The kick is kind of obvious, the snare not as bad. You could replace them with samples in an insert trigger plugin like Aptrigga or Drumagogg. I have done that many times, it is a great thing!

what kind of kick sound (referencing bands) or describing it Eq wise would you recommend?

What is no there at the mo, is EzDrummer's standard kick & kick room sound - mixed in with Steven Slate's "Red Hot Chilli Peppers Kick" using Drumagog.

the vocal seems to have no high end and sound kinda lifeless because of this to me. The kick could do with more boom perhaps? overall it just sounds a bit limp to me, like you need to create a bit more energy within the recording somehow....not sure whether this would be through creative mixing or re-recording though.
