War In The Name Of God, rock, 1st post, mix critique please?

Hi everbody!
Been lurking here for years and finally decided to post something.
Hoping if anybody has time they could give me some idea of how the mix is. New room to record and mix in and it still needs work.
The song "War In the name of God" is by my wifes band Silent Resonance.

Thanks for your time.
Kevin R.

interesting song.. sounds pretty good. I only listened to it on headphones but it sounds like it may be lacking a little high end sheen or something...like there is a thin layer of gauze over it if ya catch my drift. I would like to hear the drums more.

good job on the recording

Thanks for the listen and advice Tom!
Now that you've mentioned it, I can hear what your talking about.
I did a quick remix trying to open it up a bit and bring in a little more drums. Hope I didn't trash it completely.
Have a great day!

Hey kevin,
Sounds a little better, the drums are louder. What did you do to "open it up"?

Seems like the toms are a bit muffled sounding and I cant really hear the kick at all. Are those live drums? can you give me some more info on how you recorded the drums and the eq you used when mixing if any.

Sometime I like to use subtractive eq in other areas to help different elements of the mix come through.

Hi Tom.
Thanks for hanging with me for a bit!
To "open it up a bit" I cut some upper mids in some of the tracks and restored some of the highs I had cut out earlier.
Yes they are live drums. Everything except the vocals are from one take in a practice session.
From a recording stand point, I'm running pretty lo end right now. Trying to work with what I've got until it limits my abilities.
On the drums, I was using a pair of sm81s for overheads, a mix of Audix D2, D4 and sm57 on close toms, beta52 on kick.
All going into a sMackie 1604vlz for pre's tapped at the insert to bypass their "wonderful" eq section and using Echo Layla24 for A/D. No eq or compression going in.
While mixing, the eq on the drums is a combination of Sonars lp64 linear eq to cut some 250 to 2khz to knock down the cymbal fundamental, boosted a bit in the 115hz to bring up the toms and roll off at 40hz. And cut some more at 1k and add a little 10khz shelf boost with a UAD pultec pro plugin. Lots of subtractive eq going around so you can distinguish anything. The drummer has "LOUD" cymbals and is a bit lite on the toms and kick. I listened to the drum tracks solo'd and there is quite a bit of mud and haze in there. I'll work on that.
Thanks again,
Kevin R.

Needs help. No definition. No compression on drums. Your girlfriend is out of key. Get bold and slam it!

hey I listened at my studio on ns10's and heres what I got for ya

1) seems a bit thin : try boostin around 125 or so in the bass track not a lot just a nibble
2) the drums are lost back there (bring that guy up a bit )
3 a wee bit brighter sounds Hazy across the mix

although its a cool song the guitars sit nice the vocals might be a little loud (personal opinion) but that will change once the drums and bass (the Thump) come up a bit
great job mate!!!! cool song

vox are a bit harsh, as is the ride cymbals for me.
The guitar is a bit lost (too scooped/not loud enough).
