Hey all, This is a song on an upcoming release by my band. We recorded and mixed ourselves due to mainly money issues and not having found anyone that we felt could get across the idea of the songs as well as we could. I was interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on it: http://files.polymermusic.com/myspace/glory.m4a |

I think the vox would sound better a little "closer" on intro. A hair less reverb. Maybe double it for thickness? I can hear some high frequencies in the bass in the jam part that were distracting. Chunky almost like a rickenbacker type tone... Tiny bit of sybalance on vox could be tightened up. Was the guitar amp noise at end intentional? I'm guessing it was. Would love to learn the gear you used on this. |

Hey thanks for the reply. We were recording in an advertising studio that was mainly designed for voiceover work so we were fairly limited by what they had. That being said it had an excellent live room and plenty of isolation. Everything was recorded on an HD system (we are also currently mixing on HD as well). We used an SPL GoldMike MK2 dual channel mic pre for all guitars, bass, and vox. We used the MK2 on kick and snare but were stuck using the digi pre's for the rest of the drums. For Vox we used a U87 and an SM7 For bass we used an SVT4 through a Sadowsky Cab and an Ampeg 4x10. We also had a V4 that we were going to be using but naturally due to the laws of recording, theV4 stopped working the day we were recording bass. All bass went direct and was recorded by a D112 as well. For guitars, we used a Tele and a Les Paul Standard primarily through a Rivera (Knucklehead...I think) Head or an Orange Rockerverb Combo. We sent the both the Rivera and the Orange through a Marshall Slant Cab, because we were unsatisfied with the "loose" sound of the Vintage 30s in the Rockerverb Combo. All guitars were recorded by a 57. We agonized a lot over the guitar sounds and I think the biggest difference maker was the pedals we used on a bunch of the tracks. The Trex Replica Delay for example was used on every track and is probably the best sounding pedal we've ever heard. |

Hi there! The wocals are cool and the guis too but the drums not tight enough.Brighten them up a bit.If one intrument sounds dull the whole mix will be soundin bad.Try to focus on the drumz.Make the drum sound natural and not neutral ;-) Listen carefully to the vocals and it's freqz and you will get the answer.Try to make space in the freq.spectre for every instrument. All the best! |
