Thread Starter | New Cheap Mic shootout
Soooo - Wanted to shoot out the SE5600, Rode K2, SE Gemini, ADK A-48, SE1A, and the New 414s (not so cheap but what the hey!). Unfortunately couldn't find the 414s in London, couldn't get a lend of the ADK without some serious travelling, and the Gemini turned up new, sealed, in the box with the transformer in the power supply sheared off from the board + associated in transit damage - soooooo K2 vs SE5600 - compared to C12VR SE1A compared to Schoeps CMC5U ho hum. Blagged some downtime in a decent studio here in London (Metropolis for those interested), all the floating pres were booked so went through the G series pres (in 'B') to Prism ADA-8 to tools @ 44.1 24 bit. This ended up being a bit of a rushed day due to crazy external factors so hopefully just get a sense of the different flavours here rather than treat it as a super-precise test. Recorded nylon acoustic, yamaha grand piano (mono) and a random tambourine (  ).Hung the cheap tubes one at a time next to a C12VR and the SE1A next to the schoeps. Recorded the tamb with all five at once! Level matched all mics and fired away. See whatcha think
