Thread Starter | Song about India!
Last night I watched "The Darjeeling Limited." I'm a huge Wes Anderson fan and love everything he has done. This song, "India!," was somehow inspired by that movie. Wrote a little of it last night and produced it today. Conceptually based on the fact that me and everyone I know has at one point talked about going to India but have not yet done it. I thought I'd try something a little wacky for the bridge of this song. I used a little touch of some bastardized 16th-century 4-part counterpoint. Here's the lyrics: "India!" You talk all about it and I talk about it too. What should we do about it? Should we do it soon? India! We could go by boat or by jet-plane too. I could go there first and then wait for you. India! When are we going to India? India! |

Nice tune. From a songwriter's point of view ... I don't personally care for the bridge, as I think it takes the song into more of a camp/parody direction. The rest is great though.

Liszt you are talented but kindly focus and make your songs about something.

However, I assume you are smarter than to gloss over this. I couldn't deny that some of my songs that are posted here are void of any kind of obvious or common or even worthwhile substance. For some songs I prefer to take not so common angles with approach to composition AND lyric writing. And or course "not so common" approaches do not always impress but indeed can distract. This could be viewed as a flaw or a weakness to some I presume but are not these the things what make us unique. This subject could have been approached lyrically from many different ways. John Mayer would have an interesting approach that all american college kids would love and consequently India's travel industry would boom from the forthcoming trust fund money. AC/DC would have made something classic out of it. Schubert would have set Rückert's text in a way that would have made men weep. But I think that I understand that you mean to complimentarily and respectfully say that you think I can "do" better. So thanks for that and I will keep working on it. | ||
