Guess I'm screwed...

My new Mac update to itunes has deleted the choice for mp3.

They now use a format called AAC.

Bonxo music sites etc... do not use this format.

Any solutions for posting with this new format?

Thanks

AAC is the format that defualts in itunes. Its what the itunes store tells you, they've used it since they introudced itunes.

There should be an option in the advanced preferences to set what how you want to store the song in itunes, (aac, mp3, wav, aif, etc...). I think AAC's sound better, but they can't be used on PCs

Mac took away the option to convert to mp3 with their software upgrade.

I think aac sounds better but I can't even post my own studio recordings on music forums because they don't support aac..

I'm running the very latest iTunes (7.6) and I can convert or import to MP3... have you set MP3 as your preferred import format? If it's set correctly then under the Advanced menu there will be an option to convert to MP3. That 'convert to' option is set to whatever your import format is set to (Preferences -> Advanced).

When I go to Advanced the last item is: Deauthorize Audible Account, when I click on it, it asks for an Audible User Name and Password???????

What the hey? How is all that set up? I thought the upgrade from apple was free.

Thanks for your help terminal3.

The Audible stuff has nothing to do with being able to convert to mp3. That has to do with audiobooks/spoken word content and its own DRM.

Jim,

1. Go to "iTunes > Preferences..." (top menu bar, next to the apple )
2. Click on "Advanced" (the icon that looks like a gear)
3. Click on the "Importing" tab
4. Next to "Import Using:" select "MP3 Encoder" and adjust the settings to taste
5. Click "OK"

Now if you right-click (control-click) on a song you will see a menu item "Convert Selection to MP3".

If you ever want to go back to AAC, just follow the above instructions, only select "Import Using: AAC Encoder".

Hope this helps.
