if you got a big stack of drums at the top of a staircase, then pushed them down, and someone got crushed by them and is moaning about it. it would sound like this.

i like metal

but I am not a big fan of death metal. I am not even sure how to critique it. I hate to bash on something I don't understand. So I would say if you are going for the sound of auditory chaos it has been achieved. After that I am not even sure what else to say. Dont take this as a bash it's just not something I understand so I wouldnt know how to advise or critique it. It was an interesting listen though it made my ears really tired really fast

Thank you for at least being constructive and honest truthnlife13. just because you dont like the style of music doesnt you have to be negative. That was the first rough mix i did of it and put it up for opinions. I know the guitars sound like they are under a blanket and ive given them more of an edge in later version of the mix. i recorded this with a 4 track in a bedroom. which is why the drums are mono.

i like the drums, round, big. not technicaly "great" but cool. they sound kinda raw'ish. although i'm sure triggered to hell.

where are the guitars?

when the drums stop and you can hear the guitars and bass it sounds awesome, the bass is sweet, picky,..."korn'ish" the guitars are a little big, you need to compress them, carve out some lows, and boost some highs, cut some of the low mids,..and let them stick out dammit.

vocals,...eh.
i don't do death metal vox, i don't know how to explain this,...but,...they sund too real still.

but the rest of my opinion i would try, otherwise all you're gonna hear is drums and this weird mumbly noise.

imo.

good tohugh.

I would say you did pretty good with what you had to work with. The auditory chaos comment wasn't meant to be a shot either. My ears just hear a sonic onslaught which is maybe what's appropriate for this type of song. I don't believe in anything being good or bad when it comes to all this. Since it really falls on the ear of the beholder so to speak. I just wish I had more experience mixing this type of music to be more able to critique it. I have a couple of songs posted if you have moment feel free to give a listen and tell me to stick em where the sun don't shine. They are under the threads "rip me apart" and "If you think your work is bad". I want as much criticism as possible good or bad cuz even though I may or may not agree it could spark something that I could use on a future mix. Any and all opinions are just that but they always make us stop and think, even for a moment , which is always good

good dynamics, but were did all the top end go?? it's a little too muffled for my taste, if you can get the vox, guitars, overall drum mix to punch through on the top end it will be a success as far as metal recordings go. everything is cleanly recorded, mixed well just needs a treble boost!

random idea regardign the last post.
,...throw a multiband compressor on the master bus, squash some of the highs and bring em' up.

but i still say some mids need cut from those guitars, and add the top end to them.

i just had to mix a death metal song the other night for a friend.

i took a copy of effected vocal part, added some apmplitube to it, squashed it even harder, gated it a bit and brought that up under the original.

i did this with the kick a well, except i gated a low oscilator tone through it as well.

it resulted in a really thick punchy kick and really cut through but gutteral vox.

sounds like a heard of horses running through an outer suburban rehearsal room.

Sorry, I dont want to be mean, but that band really sucks.

If you want to show your engineering fine, but pick better project.

they aren't that great.

as far as death metal goes,... the vocals need ot be more,.. just longer lines, not one growl at a time,
and why low to high at different times,.. why not do the dani filth and have the high part mimick the low part?

i'm listening on shit right now,
but my last suggestions are:
try throwing a clicky, snapy smaple under the snare, to give it just a little more definition, so people can get hit in the chest with it.

the squeels and such stick out just fine,..but the rest of the guitar parts need to be brought up still.
just a bit.

sounds good tho
