Pretty cool song! Sounds pretty good to me. The only thing that struck me was the distorted guitars sounded pretty weak, not sure what you are going for there. You may want to ride the vocal level a bit too. That guys got a nice voice!

Thanks for the comments. They are good aren't they. Did you mean the distorted guitar needs to be fatter? louder? wider? not there at all? |

I am not sure exactly what you were going for with the distorted guitars, but I thought the tone sounded really cheesy. Like maybe it was a cheap solid state amp or something. I would start with a great tube amp like a Mesa, Marshall, or even a Vox (for this song Vox might work well). Crank it up loud, dial in a great tone on the amp settings, stick a SM57 in front of it, record at least 2 tracks (pan then L & R), and mix them to a level where they are up front (but not taking over) in the mix.

Oh i see. yeah the kid just brought a little amp like you described in and wanted to use that. I tried to not change anything they gave me too much or i may have ran it through nigel or something. i see your point though. Thanks for pointing that out, i just thought of it as background filler for that section and wasn't too concerned about it, but see, it all matters. Lesson learned. Thanks again. |
