Recording & mixing vocals

Some tips from anyone would be great!

I have your standard condenser mic, a RNC and a small ART tube mic preamp. Lots of plugins, etc... Going into a Firepod then to Sonar 6.

Any tips on how to get that pro vocal sound with what I've got?

So after recording what tricks can I use ITB?

Cheers

Hi.

First question. Is the RNC in the signal chain when you record the vocals? I record without any effects, I just make sure it doesn't clip. Now I have the possibility to apply all the effects and change them as much as I like. When you record something and later you realize you had to much compression while recording, you have to record it again.

First I have a de-esser > EQ > Compressor > Limiter (just to make sure the little peaks don't cause clipping) > a little bit reverb and/or delay.

Compression is absolutely important. In the beginning I did not use this. I just didn't understand why it sounded so lame.. the soft parts to soft. The loud parts to loud.. it whas a mess..

Good luck! (The RNC is nice on vocals!)

Keep your singer in-tune is the most important thing.
Besides, be very careful when dealing with reverb / delay in lead vocal.
