1st full mix from new project..... please comment.

Hello.

This is the 1st full mix from a demo-ish project I recorded for a friends band (working name of Inego Montoya).

All tracks were recorded onto a VS880vX 8-track through a Tascam M30 board then tracks were transferred to CEP 2.0 and mixed "in the box".

Drums were done with a pair of GT MD1B-T's for OH's, Beyer M69 on snare, RE20 on kick, and a SM57 each on floor and rack toms.

Bass is a DI/mic (RE20) combo.

Guitars are all mic'd Mesa/Marshall stack and Tech 21 Trademark 10 amps with GT/57/NT3 combos .... found a sound that fit with an NT3 .... finally.

So. ..... anywho ...... I would really appreciate any pointers and suggestions.

Or just any ol' comment or reaction.

Thanks.

-mike

My first question is....did the drummer record to a click track? It might just be too early in the morning for me but the timing seems all over the place.

I like the drumsound but not the drummer

guitars sound cool - the playing isn't top notch but that's not your fault I suppose.

The overall mix could use a little more "glue". But that's something I'm struggling myself all the time so don't ask me how to get it
Actually I like this kind of mixing.

Good luck with your project Jo

If it were me, I'd bring up the bass in the mix quite a bit. Bring the guitars down just a bit and maybe a little more 'verb on 'em. Or delay or something. Other than that, I think some careful EQ work would help everything sit in the mix better, and I'd either cut up the drums in the couple places they're really bad, or just re-track them....

Just a good mix will bring this track a long way, though....
