Thread Starter | Please critique my DnB meets Metal/Rock Band
My band just finished recording 2 new tracks, I would like some feedback from the Gearslutz community. Here is a direct link to our CD player: http://www.earthlingmassive.com/cd_player.html The first two tracks on the CD player, entitled Thought Manifesto and Nothing Personal, are the ones that I would like yall to critique, they are written with our new guitar player, Greg formerly of the metal band Neck, and are the best representation of our sound. Thanks |

What ever that player thing is, is garbage. I would suggest uploading an MP3 or provide a direct link to one, as many here probably won't take the time to try and figure that thing out and move on. IMHO ~scott

What dont you like about the CD player? It works fine and is easy to navigate on my computer. When you click on the link the first track automatically starts loading and plays. Seems pretty easy. There is a play/pause button and 2 arrow buttons that let you skip tracks, either forward or backwards, and the volume control. Please point out exactly what you dont like about it, so we can make things easier for our visitors. Thanks for the feedback. |

Chaotic, I can't hear it either. I have things set up so my soundcard wont allow unspecified applications to route to it. It keeps my ears safe from sudden unexpected sounds while my monitors are up loud. I think uploading an mp3 here should help the rest of us.thumbsup

we'll have it available for download soon, we just finished recording and are still in the process of getting it mastered, so we dont want everyone to download it before its finished. We put it in our CD player because we're anxious to have people hear it, but we want it to be 100% before people start bumping it in their cars.

Pretty cool. If I were you, Chaotic, I would check out Lacuna Coil. Their album In a Reverie is awesome, but the newest album Comalies is more refined in recording production. The reason why I brought that up is because the band reminds me of Lacuna Coil. The presentation on the website, the music, even the recording. Are you in Europe? The guy who engineered Lacuna Coil's albums is Waldemar Sorychta. Very sharp and contagious production that I think you could learn a lot from. I know I did. A lot of bands that go through Woodhouse Studios in Haggen, Germany are probably in the same league. On the songs you wanted people to listen to, I thought the vocals could be louder. Particularly on Thought Manifesto. It just drowned when the guitars went on and the snare was wacking away. On Nothing Personal, the vocals were a little better in terms of volume level. Later, -John |

Worked for me you just have to let the entire song download before you can play it no streaming. Pretty kick ass song never heard metal and techno mixed but you meshed the two genre and it works at least for this song. Very good production |

The player is slightly annoying, but I didn't have a problem hearing the first track. It's difficult to read the tiny characters in the display, especially in black against red. Onto the song. The first one is the only one I listened to. It's a well thought out and performed merger of DnB (with trance) and metal/rock. The transitions between the genres are smooth, however in the middle of the song the transition to the trance part totally kills the drive of the song. I think I'd either make the trance part much shorter or save it for the end of the song. .. or both .. using the trance part as an extended refrain at the end. The metal accents at the end leave the song flat and anti-climactic. The gtrs are a bit more bitey than chunky. I'd have leaned toward chunk. (The 2nd song is now playing and the lack of chunk in the gtrs is alot more apparent.) The snare and kick are too loud before the intro riffs change into the heavier riff (1st song). The snare could be a tad less compressed and still sound as good. Agree that the vocals sound very slightly veiled and held back. Everything else sounds good to me. I like the 2nd song more than the 1st. The way you guys got into the 'dreamy' part and the part itself is pretty cool. I'd take out the jangly synth thing near the end. It made me look for my cellphone and didn't do anything for the song. |
