"Grey Goose" Mix. (alternate tuning acoustic with some drony electric)

Hey, I'm just cutting my teeth learning how to mix ITB in pro tools. This is a song I wrote and recorded on a Project Mix with only a Studio Projects C3. (Even on the twin reverb) If you have any suggestions or tips about the mix, I'd be delighted to hear them. Thanks!

For fans of Owen/American Football/My Bloody Valentine

Edit! I uploaded a new mix. Let me know what you think! Thanks.

well done! a realy nice piece of music. the drums are sounding a bit static to me. nice melodies nice arrangement. the guitar on the right is kinda running away and jerkey, but hey.... all in all: thumbs thumbsup

Hi, another example that it´s possible to do some very decent sounding recordings from the projectmix. I really like your tune it has a nice vibe. I also think your mix sounds good and the way the guitars comes in from different sides is good. The only thing to point in my opinion arrangementvise would be in some part to leave the drums out more which would give the song a more exiting approach, maybe put in some percussions instead. It could be fun to hear more from you in the future, I own a projectmix myselfe and I´m kind of getting over the point whether I should have more expensive stuff or not to do good sounding stuff, now I just make music. It´s fun to hear what others are able to do on their PM.
Keep up the good work
Anders

wow thanks for the replies from across the ocean. i've had pretty good luck with the project mix thus far. i've owned it for about 8 months and recorded in garageband, logic, and protools and it's been handy for each. i'm going to do another mix of grey goose. i forgot to do delay compensation for the plug ins on that mix. hopefully that will help some of the timing of the guitars. cheers.

nathan.

I liked the music I didnt particularly enjoy the vocals they were too low in soe areas.. and the electronic drums felt a little too loose in some spots almost off.. I didnt enjoy the music itself tho I like the fx on the guitars and the real drums as well (then again most of the stuff I do is hip hop pop n rnb so this music isnt my area of expertise... Oh and I like the way u ended it too )

Hey thanks for listening. All the drums are quantized, so they're not loose at all. I think maybe the acoustic's timing is a bit off in a couple spots, but during the electronic part there is no acoustic, so i'm not sure what you were hearing. The "real drums" were just played in on a midi keyboard and then time aligned. Added some tape saturation and some reverb. As far as the vocals. I like vocals that blend in with the mix for this type of music. If they were too far out front, the song would feel completely different.

The music is nice but I don't like the electronic breakdown thing.

You should use a softer bass drum in the intro where it's a bit too exposed, and maybe bring it down a touch overall.

I'd have to say that the drums are the weakest part of the song/mix.

The vocals sound a bit thin.

Hmmm

The only thing I will add besides retweaking the drums is that you have a crap load of pile up in this track and the pannind is off on these drums... The vocals actually sound nice.. But you never want to pan the kick and thats what I feel is happening here..

Here is a basic minimalist idea

Guitars kinda Far Left and kinda Far Right
Vocals Center
Kick Center
Bass Center
Snare a bit left or right
toms a bit right and left
Splash or Symbols right and left

Music is an Image see it that way....

Right now everything is panned without purpose and the balances are completely off...

GOOD SONG THOUGH

What you suggested is exactly how I have everything panned.
