Question RAP/RnB HIT???!?! feedback plz

just a song we've been working on

I produced the song
also i spit dat fire flow on it ya digg?

im having problems with editing, i cant seem to get happy with it
how much of a difference would 48000hz make compared to 96000 hz???
the only way there is absolutely ZERO latency is to record at 96000 hz
BUT i seem to pick up a small hiss/noise even when the mic's turned all the way low....someone help me out here!

Song needs a lot of work man...but I think you could make the hook way stronger if you sung the chorus and stopped after "ride it slow" and then started back with the "shorty" line ...basically cutting the chorus in half and repeating the front part I outlined..the chorus would be way better and way easier to sing along to. Also needs more synth work happening and more detail on the autotune..I know you are going for the Tpain thing, but it is not there yet.

okk

thanks, it wouldn;t be a prob to re-do the whole song cuz, i just recently attained some usr plugins and the waves plugin pack so im mixing vocals with something different than just standard adode plugins so i think the re-do will turn out much better

also i think songs flow better with bridges, all of the songs we have recorded are only verse and chorus i think it would sound more full to have a bridge, dont you?

what about the beat? does it sound iight?
I just got my midi controller and reason 3.0 about a month ago so im pretty much getting the hang of it now exspecially with sampled beats

It's a rap song..a bridge is not really needed, but try it..there are no rules.

You can edit that chorus and not even have to retrack..its a simple cut and paste job just to hear how it sounds. I do that a lot. I will use Melodyne to change a singer's notes in a chorus just to try different ideas and see how it sounds before I retrack anything.

ok....I'm not going to comment on the mix...work to be done there.......but I think you need to track the vocals in a dryer enviroment.....sound kind of roomy. I would definitley either retrack and notch up the bpm or add something to make it move a bit more.....perc etc....but I hear the hook notched up acouple mof bpm.

This is so true. Infact mimick the arrangement of a rock song with your hiphop . try to incorporate the same elements just ina custom fashion and this is just my opinion but no body like t pain. mainly because of the auto tune effect. if you really know how to sing then stand behind that mic. put some emotion in your voice and pour our heart out. convey that message. dont rely on a effect. thats just my opinion....i hate t pain.

Wink

Hmm to be honest, the 808's seem like they are representing well. The vocoder action is aiight at best, but I want to focus on critiquing the lyrics and the quality. The snares pierce nicely through the mix, man.

Here it is: since the mp3 is at 96kbps/16-bit/44.1kHz, you should re-mix it dow to at least a 192kbps (mp3 CD-DA level)...then after listening to it, then I can critique it again. Otherwise, I have nada more to say.

Lyrically, step your A-game up. Talk about something that make cats laugh and be like "yo this dude got lyrics"..listen to UGK or Geto Boyz..those southern cats can spit fire and make you think laugh or some type of reaction but "boring". You have to do that because you sound like 75 other southern cats out there on the mike. You want to get noticed; that's what it takes.

Cheers!

izzy =)

First thing,

1) the kick is smashed too much. Are you limiting it? Try carving EQ holes for the bass and kick. All of the low energy is being sucked out of it. Try "widening" the bass instead of smashing it. I mean its hiphop so you want that bottom end to come out, but not muddy.
2) I would work with that clap a bit. You can layer samples with different delays and make it thicker, then add a little compression to glue it together.
3) Try High passing someo f those synths.

Theres a start. Hope it helps.
