Recording-practice test session

I am in the process of honing my recording/mixing and rudimentary mastering skills with my VERY humble setup in order to eventually capture my original tunes. This one-minute solely synth-based cover of a fairly obscure Stone's tune came to mind in a flashback and I laid down 4 tracks from memory. (mistakes aplenty...I already shot the accordion player ) Then.......I played with the mix. Anything glaring stand out to any of you guys? Thanks in advance for all the learned ears on the stage over here at G.S.! ---Lee Tyler

Re: Recording-practice test session

You allready shot the Accordeon player ... GOOD.

Very refreshing little tune that sticks out nicely between all this distorted guitar violence ...

liked it a lot.

Chris, thanks for opining on this test. I never tried emulating an accordion, bellows and all, but I think there is promise and I may dig up the accordionist from his grave for remedial technique training. The "distorted guitar violence" comment is hysterical! What do you think is the glaring problem with that acoustic guitar patch? I could really learn from your learned opinion. Thanks, Chris!! ---Lee Tee

Hi Lee,

I'll return the favor. Nice recording. Good depth. It might be my board, but the vocal seems to be coming from the left. You might have done that on purpose to balance out the keyboard on the right? Sounds nice. Man, I should send you a sans-vocal track of my tune and have you sing it. I'll trade you a vocal for a drum track.
BTW, what synth(s) are you using?

Jon

Hey Jon, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. Yup, the vocal....after all my post-fiddling about, seems to be about 11 o'clock and I am not particularly pleased with this. Good call. I wonder at what stage/process this happened. Easy fix though. Just another 1/8 teaspoon of flour in the right speaker. (BTW, It ain't yo' board, dude) I am using a Kurzweil K2600X synth/workstation with stock sounds....including the phoney-baloney random fret-squeak on that gee-tar patch. Thanks again, Jon. All the best! --LeeLooapizozorched.
