Heavy stonish rock band mix

Hey folks,

we've just finished mixing the instrumental part of a six songs EP for a rock band, I think it sounds good, but I need some opinions on what can sit better in the mix (I'm not sure about the bass level/boominess for example), and how to improve details.
This is not the final thing, because we have to incorporate the vocals etc.

The file is an AIFF, it can be a bit long to download...

Not bad. Good porportions between the instruments.

The drums can come up in the mix. The snare seems a little small. Maybe a trigger. If you gave me this track to mix, I would definitely trigger another snare. As a compliment and not replace.

Your snare sound has a good top, but for my taste, I would trigger a chunkierr snare (something with more mids around 800hz).

Hope this helped

Thanks for the input !

We can definitely trigger the snare to get something more "deftonesque", but I think we'll use an analog compressor on the mixbus, and it should "glue" those drums a bit more, and make them more pop up through. I think the drummer doesn't want us to trigger his drums :s, but we'll try a bit of that 800 Hz boost tomorrow !
Do you think parallel compressing the drumbus can be great ?

Here is another try :
http://sylvain.raulin.free.fr/Budmix/budnewmix_GS.aif

This time the summing was done through the Mackie 8 bus console (the 1st extract was digital summing into Cubase), then printed directly to the CD burner. It has more "glue" and "depth" to me, even if it's not an SSL mixdown.

It seems there is something strange happening with the guitars and cymbals : guitars sound a bit too midrangey, and cymbals are a bit loud (lots of ambience) and fight with the guitars.
What do you think ? What do I have to do with the balance ?
