Please critique my mix.

Here`s a short snippet of mix I did yesterday.
Please comment on the balance, vocals and drums.
No hardware used except Oktava 319 + some cheap ass preamp (still theu say it beats out competitors in the $ 200 range)

i would pull down the hi hat a little
and sonically i think the bass end could be heavier
similar to 'hard knock life - jay z'
that may mean a different bass drum and bass.

vocals sound a-ite

the trumpet sample in the verse could come down a little - use your automation.
and the guitar in the chorus could have an effect on it to widen it.

good vibe.
what are the lyrics about?

Well, first of all. thanx for the replies. Primo`s stuff was one of the inspirations 4 the mix (the refernce, at least).
i`ma try to give a concept of the track. It`s kinda represent track where I compare myself to a doctor Ibolit from a Russian fairytale who treated animals. So the metaphor is, wack rappers who write wack rhymes and bother with their rap their girlfriends, are the animals. And me, the doctor, suugest their girlfriends to take their rapping teddy-bears to me. I make the beat on, and in a couple of minutes the MC is eutanized, not physically, but in the verbal sense - he stops writing bullshit raps.
And as a wage, I take the girlfriend`s puss.. ehm... soul.
I also propose the girls to call me right now, as long as their rapping pet has not died over stress caused by wack rap writing.

Dah,

I think this mix sounds good. I think I understand why you don't use effects to enhance the guitar samples... sounds rawer this way. Anyway, I like it. Would u like to share what you used inside the box to make this? Where are the samples from, any soft synths, software compressors, eq's, etc etc...

OK, thanxx to all respondents for comments.
Yes, everything is straight off the FL Studio (production and mix).
Drums - 1 shots.
Guitar - chopped from some sound magazine CD with giutar combo samples.
bass - seems to be have been recorded straight to AC97 (I hadnt had Juli@ at the time) line, no DI , thern put to FL sampler , volume-ADSRed and played as one-shot.
Horns were sampled from the vynil, the Russian fairytale "Neznayka" by N. Nosov.
I guess there is lotta eq, maybe some compression on kick and the snare. No reverbs/delays at all, maybe just a milligram on vox.

I would pull down the hi hat and maybe boost the hi's on it a bit, and pull down the snare a half db

great.I agree...i just recognized my last 2 tracks without reverb is much better the sound.Really Naturalistic..i prefer some slow delay wich is dissapear in the background and serious pannings with double instrument channels.
try to check on poor speakers as well.
